Woody Allen meets Wes Anderson in the witty and whimsical first trailer for Whit Stillman’s boarding school dramedy “Damsels in Distress”, starring Analeigh Tipton as a naive new college student taken under the wing and schooled in gender politics by Greta Gerwig’s self-annointed world-weary leader of women. Megalyn Echikunwoke and Carrie MacLemore round out the quartet of damsels whose distress, naturally, comes in the form of boy drama. There’s Adam Brody as Charlie, a clear playboy/operator and exactly the kind of man Tipton’s innocent Lily should stay away from, and Ryan Metcalfe’s Frank, seemingly the right kind of guy who turns out to not be so perfect after all. Thank goodness the girls have tap dancing as an outlet for all the stress in their lives.
“Damsels in Distress”, which could not look more delightful and which has garnered raves from Venice and Toronto last year, will finally hit theaters on April 6th. Watch the first trailer, unveiled by Yahoo! Movies, below.
