First look at Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer in Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper odyssey “Magic Mike”

We’ve seen a few on-set images of Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming stripper buddy comedy, “Magic Mike”, but now that we have the first official still, can we just say this is one film we’re definitely looking forward to next year?

Starring rising Hollywood stars including Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Matt Bomer, Cody Horn and Riley Keough, the film is based on the teenage experiences of Tatum, who dabbled in the art of male stripping when he was 19.

Tatum plays the titular Magic Mike, who takes an inexperienced young dancer called The Kid (played by Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money. Soderbergh was approached by Tatum after they worked together on “Haywire.” and he agreed to direct as he felt the story was one he had yet to see on the big screen.

“Magic Mike” is out on wide release on June 29th, 2012 and the full image is below.

“Bridesmaid” Rita to star alongside male strippers in “Magic Mike”

Steven Soderbergh’s newest project Magic Mike sure is rounding up an exciting cast of up and coming talent. With Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Cody Horn, Riley Keough and Olivia Munn all signed on to star alongside Matthew McConaughey, THR has now reported that Wendi McLendon-Covey has joined the cast.

McLendon-Covey broke out in this year’s hit comedy, Bridesmaids, and is soon to star in the upcoming indie comedy Sleeping Around, and the Lionsgate ensemble comedy What to Expect When You’re Expecting.

Magic Mike is a true story based on the teenage experiences of male stripper Tatum. As we previously reported, Tatum plays the titular Magic Mike, who takes the young and inexperienced Pettyfer under his wing. McConaughey plays a former stripper turned club owner while Bomer is joined by Joe Manganiello as fellow strippers. Keough will be Pettyfer’s love interest while Horn, reportedly beating out bigger name actresses, will play Pettyfer’s older sister Paige who gets involved romantically with Tatum.

At the time of Horn’s casting, there was still another female character to be cast, another love interest for Tatum’s character named Amber. No word yet on whether Olivia Munn or McLendon-Covey will be taking on this part.

“What to Expect When You’re Expecting” cast adds a “True Blood” werewolf and a couple of “Bridesmaids”

Joe Manganiello, Rebel Wilson and Wendi McLendon-Covey are the three newest actors to jump on board ensemble romantic comedy “What to Expect When You’re Expecting”, reports THR and EW. The three play supporting characters (read: none of them are expected to spawn a child in the film) and join a cast that already includes Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Banks, Cameron Diaz, Brooklyn Decker, Anna Kendrick, Chace Crawford, Rodrigo Santoro, Rob Huebel and Chris Rock.

The Kirk Jones directed film, based on the international best-selling advice books, follows four couples preparing for the arrival of a new child. The expectant mothers are presumably played by Lopez, Banks, Kendrick and Decker. “True Blood” werewolf Manganiello plays Davis, a ladies-man photographer whose travels and child-free lifestyle is the envy of a dads-only support group led by Rock. Wilson, the hilarious British roommate to Kristen Wiig in “Bridesmaids”, will play an employee at Banks’ baby store “The Breast Choice” while her co-star McLendon-Covey will play a friend and co-worker of Lopez’s.

Manganiello was recently shortlisted for Zack Snyder’s Superman reboot “The Man of Steel” and continues his increasingly more visible role as werewolf Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s “True Blood”, now in its fourth season. McLendon-Covey will continue her series regular role as Liz on hit CBS sitcom “Rules of Engagement”. Aussie Wilson recently completed her native country’s answer to “The Hangover”, “A Few Best Men” starring “Twilight” star Xavier Samuel, and also has a role in Tom Hardy-Chris Pine-Reese Witherspoon action/romantic comedy caper “This Means War.”

“What To Expect When You’re Expecting” is expected to shoot in late summer for a May 11, 2012 release date.
