Cillian Murphy to star in WWII thriller “Wayfaring Strangers”

The always-riveting and mostly-terrifying Cillian Murphy will fight to survive the Second World War as he joins the cast of “Wayfaring Strangers”. Total Film reports the Irish actor is in talks for the film, with Sir Michael Gambon, Sylvie Testud and Niels Arestrup rounding out the cast on the Irish-French co-production. Filming is set to get underway mid-August under the direction of Stephen Bradley. France’s Chic Films and Ireland’s Treasure Entertainment are producing and handling sales at Cannes.

“Wayfaring Strangers” is set in WWII and revolves around a group of British soldiers taken prisoner by German soldiers. The soldiers take their prisoners to a remote farmhouse to await transport to bring the men back to Germany, while unbeknownst to the group, a young Jewish couple is hiding out in the attic.

Murphy first broke out in the summer of 2005 when he collectively scared the crap out of audiences with dual villain roles, as The Scarecrow in Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” and in Wes Craven’s “Red Eye”, where he held Rachel McAdams hostage in mid-air. He had another big Nolan summer in “Inception” and will next be seen as another villain in “In Time”, Andrew Niccol’s sci-fi thriller starring Justin Timberlake and Amanda Seyfried. Murphy recently completed filming on Rodrigo Cortes’ “Red Lights” opposite Robert DeNiro.
