Justin Timberlake to star in romantic dramedy “The Last Drop”

September 26, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Continuing to stay the busiest “Social Network” alum, Justin Timberlake has lined up his next project. Variety reports Timerblake will play the lead in indie romantic dramedy “The Last Drop” for “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” director Peter Sollett. Timberlake will play a charming alcoholic food critic who realizes he must change his ways when he meets the girl of his dreams. The script by Brandon and Phil Murphy appeared on the 2011 Black List.

After wowing critics with his portrayal of Napster founder Sean Parker in David Fincher’s “The Social Network”, Timberlake has leveraged a nice, serious film career for himself, arguably a better one than many of his co-stars thus far. He can currently be seen opposite Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams in baseball family drama “Trouble With the Curve” and recently wrapped up gambling thriller “Runner Runner” opposite Ben Affleck and Anthony Mackie. He’ll next be seen alongside Carey Mulligan and Oscar Isaac in the Coen Brothers’ 1960s set folk music drama “Inside Llewyn Davis.”

Watch: Justin Timberlake roadtrips with Amy Adams and Clint Eastwood in first trailer for “Trouble with the Curve”

“The Social Network” really did wonders for former boybander Justin Timberlake’s image as a serious actor. Look at him now, just two years later, starring opposite heavyweights Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams in what could be another serious prestige film during another Oscar season. In “Trouble with the Curve”, Eastwood plays an aging baseball scout, reluctant to give up his life’s work, while Adams is his daughter who would like to take over the family business and maybe finally get to spend time with her absent father in the meantime. In a refreshing change of pace, Timberlake appears to take on a secondary love interest/support role to Adams, who clearly gets the emotional journey here (hey, it would have been just as easy – and more predictable – for Eastwood’s character to have a son rather than a daughter).

Eastwood came out of semi-retirement to act in his longtime producing partner Robert Lorenz’s directorial debut. “Trouble with the Curve” will be released on September 28th, and the first trailer can be viewed below.

Justin Timberlake to make his billions with online gambling – and not MP3s – in new thriller “Runner Runner”

April 15, 2012 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Casting 2 Comments

After a career-changing role in David Fincher‘s Oscar-winning ‘The Social Network’, followed by two unfortunate box office duds (‘Friends with Benefits’, ‘In Time’), Justin Timberlake has continued to make smart career decisions,

Hitting several shortlists over the last few months, including the controversial Akira remake, the male lead in Warren Beauty‘s Howard Hughes biopic, and even popping up on our wish-list for the adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s “Sex on the Moon”, Variety has now reported that the young star has signed on to New Regency’s thriller ‘Runner Runner‘.

The film, to be directed by Brad Furman (‘Lincoln Lawyer’), centers around an illegal online gambling business and the tensions between a business founder and his protege. Timberlake will possibly be teaming up with Oscar winner Ben Affleck who is still in negotiations to star. The script comes from Brian Koppelman and David Levien – whose 1998 film ‘Rounders’ also featured high-stakes gambling – and production is scheduled to begin this summer in Puerto Rico.

Timberlake recently finished filming Joel and Ethan Coen’s 1960s-set folk music drama ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ which also stars Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund, and is currently filming alongisde Amy Adams in the Clint Eastwood baseball drama ‘Trouble with the Curve’.

Proving nepotism isn’t always rife in Hollywood, Scott Eastwood, son of Clint, is joining his Hollywood legend father in “Trouble With The Curve” after auditioning for the role.

The sports flick, also starring Justin Timberlake, features elder Eastwood as an aging, sight impaired baseball scout who travels with his daughter (to be played by Amy Adams) to Atlanta to check out a hot new prospect. Younger Eastwood is to play Billy Clark, “a slumping minor league player who the the protag discovered and still has faith in”.

Eastwood’s first role was in his father’s film “Flags Of Our Fathers”, and has also starred in several others. Last seen in horror film “Enter Nowhere”, in 2012 Eastwood will have several releases – drama “Carmel” with Josh Hutchinson, another sports drama “Of Men and Mavericks” with Gerald Butler, and then filming will begin soon for “Trouble With The Curve” since Warner Bros have already set a release date of September 28.

Justin Timberlake joins Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams in “Trouble with the Curve”

Hard to believe, but it looks like Justin Timberlake is building the most impressive portfolio so far out of all the talented guys who broke out in “The Social Network.” Today Variety reports the singer-turned-serious-actor is negotiating to take a lead role in baseball drama “The Trouble with the Curve” opposite Clint Eastwood and Amy Adams. Eastwood will be solely in front of the camera and not behind it for the first time since 1993, while longtime producing partner Robert Lorenz will make his directorial debut on the film.

Eastwood stars as an aging, sight impaired baseball scout who travels with his daughter to Atlanta to check out a hot new prospect. Timberlake is in talks for the role of Johnny Flanagan, a former ball player turned scout for the Yankees who may become a love interest to Adams’ character. Filming should begin soon since the Warner Bros film already has a release date of September 28. Just in time for Oscar season.

And that’s not the only potential Oscar heavy hitter Timberlake’s got in the pipe. He’s also set to jam with Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac and Garrett Hedlund in 60s folk music drama “Inside Llewyn Davis”, though that project is still seemingly further down the line. Meanwhile, we assume he is still in consideration for the male lead in Warren Beatty’s Howard Hughes biopic. Not bad for a former member of ‘N Sync.
