Rising Irish actress Antonia Campbell-Hughes cast as Kampusch in “3096″

Rising Irish actress Antonia Campbell-Hughes has been cast in “3096″, the true story based on Natascha Kampusch, the Austrian girl who was kidnapped and held hostage in a basement for more than eight years. Also starring will be Danish actor Thure Lindhardt as her kidnapper, Wolfgang Priklopil.

Kidnapped in Vienna in 1998 aged 10, Kampusch was kept hidden in a specially built cellar for 3,096 days until 2006 when she escaped. Priklopil committed suicide the same day by jumping in front of a train.

Director Sherry Hormann (“Desert Flowers”) told Variety, “Antonia Campbell-Hughes and Thure Lindhardt are perfectly suited to capture the overwhelming essence of the story: It’s a universal story — the insanity of the act lies within the act itself, no matter where it takes place.”

It’s been a busy two years for the young actress, as she was named one of Screen Daily’s UK Stars of Tomorrow and last year headlined Cannes competition drama “The Other Side Of Sleep” and Tribeca selection “Lotus Eaters”. She featured alongside Mia Wasikowska and Aaron Johnson in the recent Oscar nominated film “Albert Nobbs”, and was Ireland’s Shooting Star at this year’s annual Berlinale event which celebrates young talent.Screen Daily reported back in January that Campbell-Hughes was also set to join Jena Malone in Deb Kampmeier‘s “Lonely Hunter” as “Annemarie Clarac Schwarzenbach, a gorgeous young woman who was indifferent to McCullers’ affections.”
