TV: First Teaser Trailer for Return of ‘Outlander’

Starz is likely aware that their set return date for the second half of hit freshman series “Outlander” left fans in agony, having to wait eight long months between the midseason finale and its April 2015 premiere. But now they are alleviating the wait a bit by releasing the first teaser for the show’s return, showcasing brand new footage and a pivotal line from our time-traveling heroine Claire (Caitriona Balfe). This week’s highly anticipated wedding episode of “Outlander” begins with Claire’s (Caitriona Balfe) 20th century life the day that she and Frank (Tobias Menzies) got married. We’re then brought back to her current reality: her second wedding, this time to Jamie (Sam Heughan). Things are a bit awkward as Claire copes with the situation. She asks her new husband why he agreed to marry her, and he explains that he didn’t feel he had much choice in the matter either. TV RECAP: Drinking and Demons on ‘Outlander’

At the end of last week’s “Outlander,” Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had to face the reality that she wasn’t going to be returning to the 20th century any time soon, locked in the dungeons by a suspicious Colum (Gary Lewis). This week’s episode begins with a flashback (or forward?) to Claire’s departure from Frank (Tobias Menzies) for wartime. She promises to return, and although she does that time, it seems especially poignant given she may never actually return to him now. We cut to Claire’s morning bath and preparation with theRead More

TV RECAP: Go Back in Time with ‘Outlander’

“Outlander” tells a story unlike any other. It’s told from the perspective of Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), an English combat nurse of the 1940s, fiercely capable and strong-minded. The first episode is mainly preparation for the adventure that is to come, introducing our heroine and her modern life. The tale begins with voiceover that hints at Claire’s anticipated fate, parts romantic and mysterious. This narration continues throughout, serving as the guiding force of the fantasy as it unwinds. We’re then thrust into her life as she does her part toRead More
“Outlander” has already been described as a female-driven “Game of Thrones,” though that label, while complimentary, seems to do a disservice to both shows. There are elements of similarity, but the Starz adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s best-selling fantasy novel series firmly stands on its own, with its sweepingly cinematic storytelling and compelling lead characters. If male audiences can’t look beyond a woman at the center of this story to reap the rewards of tuning in, it would be their very unfortunate loss. For what it’s worth, there’s plenty more goreRead More
Starz has unveiled a gorgeous first poster promoting their highly anticipated adaptation of fantasy romance “Outlander,” which now finally has an official premiere date: Saturday, August 9th at 9pm. The series’ tagline “What if your future was the past?” is pretty on-the-nose articulated in the poster, which sees our heroine Claire (Caitriona Balfe) reaching back towards her husband in the 1920s but running towards Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan), the man she’ll end up falling for and marrying when she’s thrust through time and ends up in 18th Century Scotland. TheRead More
A new trailer for Starz’s adaptation of Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling fantasy novel “Outlander” has been released, focusing on disappearances. Scottish newcomer Sam Heughan plays the protagonist, Jamie Fraser, though we begin the story with Caitriona Balfe’s Claire, a married nurse recently reunited with her husband after WWII. Their second honeymoon doesn’t last long as she finds herself violently flung through time amidst the mysteries of the British Isles. She lands in war-torn Scotland in 1743, where her life is immediately threatened and Heughan’s Fraser comes to her rescue. She’s forcedRead More
David S. Goyer’s take on the untold tales of inventor and artist Leonardo Da Vinci returns for a second season next month, and Starz have just over this new featurette for “Da Vinci’s Demons” for a new tease of what’s to come. British actor Tom Riley returns as Da Vinci, and here’s the official synopsis for season 2: “Florence is thrown into chaos in the wake of the Pazzi conspiracy and Leonardo da Vinci must push the limits of his mind and body to defend the city against the forcesRead More
