Sam Worthington goes from ex-assassin to bodyguard in adaptation “For The Dogs”

samSam Worthington broke out in 2009′s huge box office hit “Avatar” but we haven’t seen much of the Australian actor since. Now Deadline reports that Worthington will star in an adaptation of Kevin Wignall’s novel “For The Dogs“.

An action-thriller to be directed by Philip Noyce, “For The Dogs” will star Worthington as Lucas, an ex-assassin turned bodyguard who sets out to protect a young girl, Ella, and help her exact revenge following the death of her family – who had hired Lucas to keep watch on Ella.

Worthington joined the A List in 2009 following the critical and commercial acclaim for James Cameron’s $237 million 3D smash, “Avatar”. He also starred in “Clash Of The Titans” and “Man On A Ledge” but neither performed particularly well critically nor at the box office. He went on to star in “Texas Killing Fields” and Australian surf flick “Drift“, and will next be seen in David Ayer’s “Ten”, also starring Mirelle Enos and Malin Akerman.

“The Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth leads “Timeless” sci-fi love story

[01/25/12 UPDATE] Hemsworth is now officially confirmed for “Timeless”, via press release from Relativity Media.

Dave Franco isn’t the only one playing catch-up to a more successful older sibling. Liam Hemsworth, little brother to Chris “Thor” Hemsworth, has been working hard to carve out a smart and hopefully long-standing career of his own. After landing what is sure to be one hell of a breakout role as Gale opposite Jennifer Lawrence in Gary Ross’s “The Hunger Games”, Moviehole reports (via Playlist) the young Aussie is in negotiations for the lead role in Philip Noyce’s time-traveling love story “Timeless.”

At the ripe old age of 21, Hemsworth will play a man haunted by the recent passing of his wife and subsequently learns she has left him a tremendous fortune in her will. He decides to use the money to build a time machine so he can go back and see her one final time. “Enchanted” scribe Bill Kelly wrote the script. All together now: Awwwwww. But before you write it off as “The Time Traveler’s Wife 2″, just remember director Noyce is behind films like “Salt”, “Patriot Games” and “The Bone Collector.” Surely there’ll be more of an element of action and danger than the initial premise suggests.

Hemsworth, too, seems drawn to more action-oriented roles that befit his hulking 6’3″ frame (feature film debut in Miley Cyrus starring Nicholas Sparks adaptation “The Last Song” notwithstanding. Ouch!). After playing young rebel Gale in “The Hunger Games”, he’ll don Army greens for Vietnam War drama “AWOL” and then tussle about with the most iconic action stars of all time in the most testosterone driven film ever, “The Expendables 2.”
