Watch: Amber Heard and Odette Yustman attempt escape in new “And Soon the Darkness” clip

And in “haven’t we seen this movie a million times before?” news, MTV has the first look at a new clip from “And Soon the Darkness”, an exotic-vacation-goes-awry caper featuring Amber Heard and Odette Yustman as Stephanie and Ellie, respectively, two young friends who head for the beaches and bars of Argentina for a party-hard vacation, only to run into deadly trouble when Ellie vanishes, becoming the latest victim in a string of mysterious kidnappings. The clip gives little away, and seems to over-dramatize a situation that doesn’t seem nearly as dire as the score would indicate.

Still, it’s nice to see Heard and Yustman headline this thriller without resorting to playing girlfriends of male characters. Yustman nearly had a break-out moment in “Cloverfield” but never quite made it, following it up with duds such as “You Again”, but Heard is a real up and comer who has appeared in effective supporting roles in “Pineapple Express” and “Zombieland” and has the highly anticipated Johnny Depp starrer “The Rum Diary” in the can.

Is “And Soon the Darkness” their big break? I kind of doubt it, but watch the clip below and judge for yourself when the movie is released on December 17.
