TV RECAP: The Beginning of the End for ‘Parenthood’

The last season premiere ever of “Parenthood” (are we crying yet?) opens on a jump from last season. We see Aida walking, Julia (Erika Christensen) with a new beau (or maybe just a good old fashioned FWB?), the charter school that Kristina (Monica Potter) started is almost done, Zeek (Craig T. Nelson) and Camille (Bonnie Bedelia) are settling in to their new home, Sarah (Lauren Graham) and Hank (Ray Romano) are together, but, more importantly, Amber (Mae Whitman) is indeed pregnant. After a talk with Hank about his daughter comingRead More
A “Graceland” actress is joining NBC firefighter drama “Chicago Fire” for a four episode arc, according to TVLine. Serinda Swan will play a graphic designer named Brittany Baker, who will be a love interest for hunky firefighter Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney). This development may worry fans of Severide’s current relationship with “Chicago PD”‘s Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). It’s been an ambitious move for the two television shows to have a relationship that plays out over both shows throughout the season. “Chicago PD” is a spinoff of “Chicago Fire”, and is enteringRead More
The first image of Allison Williams as “Peter Pan” in NBC’s newest live musical adaptation was released today by Today.com. The image shows Williams in Peter’s classic green costume with a new short hairstyle.  In an Instagram post from the star herself, she explains her willingness to commit fully to the role by cutting her hair, but the decision was made to use a wig. “Peter Pan” will air live on December 4th and is a follow up to “Sound of Music”, which NBC aired last year. The live eventRead More
Broadway actor Christian Borle has been tapped to play not one but two roles for NBC’s upcoming live production of “Peter Pan”. He will play Smee, Captain Hook’s right-hand man and Mr. Darling, the father of Wendy and her brothers. It is a bit of a tradition for the actor who plays the father to take on a second role, generally Captain Hook, but this particular production went a slightly different direction. Borle joins recently cast Allison Williams as Peter Pan and Christopher Walken as Captain Hook. There will noRead More
NBC’s DC comic adaptation “Constantine” has gone through a rather major casting change. Lucy Griffiths, who had been cast as the show’s female lead, a character named Liv, will be written out after appearing in the pilot, and the role of sidekick and partner to Matt Ryan’s supernatural detective will now be played by Angelica Celaya. Unlike Liv, Celaya’s character Zed will be one familiar to fans of the comic books. In the comics, Zed is the wayward daughter of an evangelical family who helps Constantine with a rescue, ultimatelyRead More
Since “Frozen,” it’s probably not surprising that Kristen Bell would become a “get” for the myriad of musical productions in development for film and TV. NBC has come forward to admit they tried to get the actress/singer for their “Peter Pan,” the live musical event follow-up to last year’s “The Sound of Music,” but alas, scheduling couldn’t be worked out. “She is somebody I talked to about doing it, and she was interested, but she’s doing ‘House of Lies’,” NBC president Robert Greenblatt said at the the TCA summer pressRead More

TV: NBC Sets Fall Premiere Schedule

NBC has announced its official premiere dates for both new and returning shows this fall. Most of the dramas take center stage premiering first in September while the comedies are mostly held for the start of October. A breakout hit of last season, “The Blacklist” gets the ball rolling with a premiere Monday, September 22nd at 10 pm (following reality competition staple “The Voice”). “Chicago Fire” returns Tuesday, September 23rd in the 10 pm time slot. Wednesday, September 24th, carries the first new show with “The Mysteries of Laura” premieringRead More
Constantine - Season Pilot
“Parenthood” fans can breathe a collective sigh of relief as, after a tense few days, NBC has officially renewed the popular Jason Katims family drama for one final 13 episode season. Now that they’ve locked in everything they’re picking up (12 new shows in addition to renewals) and dropping (“Community,” among others), they’ve also released their fall schedule, as well as some new photos trailers for their new shows. Below is the schedule, plus new looks at Casey Wilson in “Marry Me,” Cristin Milioti and Ben Feldman in “A toRead More
About a Boy - Season 1
When NBC renewed “About a Boy” for a second season earlier today, one of my first thoughts was I hope that Adrianne Palicki will return to reprise her role as Samantha Lake. But these first stills released from the show’s first season finale teases that may not be where the show will be heading next season, as Sam and Will (David Walton) are pictured at an airport security checkpoint. These sorts of scenes never bode well for romantic couples, especially in season finales, especially when half of the couple isRead More
'Hannibal' Episode 2.10, 'Naka-Choko'
It’s been a mixed bag of a day for the most passionate fans of NBC’s bubble shows. “Hannibal” fans got good news as the Peacock network has renewed Bryan Fuller’s serial killer procedural for a third season, but the timeline has turned decidedly darker for fans of “Community,” the little sitcom that could which is now over after 5 seasons. Let’s hope the rumors swirling that Dan Harmon has already been reaching out to Hulu and Netflix about picking up the show are true. #SixSeasonsandaMovie! Elsewhere at the network, “AboutRead More
