First Official Still of Natalie Portman in Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

May 15, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

knightofcupssm The first official image from Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” is basically what we’d expected it to be, based on set photos from about a year ago. THR has the first photo of Natalie Portman and Christian Bale frolicking in the waves, and reports footage from the secretive auteur’s latest will be screened for potential buyers at Cannes this week.

The film is now said to be about celebrities and excess, while it had been previously reported that Bale plays a man “on a search for love and truth.” Not that the two are mutually exclusive, of course. In addition to Portman, Bale was also photographed filming very similar beach frolicking scenes with a variety of young actresses including Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer and Isabel Lucas. The film also stars Cate Blanchett.

See the first photo of Portman and Bale in “Knight of Cups” below. It has no US distributor just yet.

First Look at Anna Kendrick in New “Drinking Buddies” Images

May 15, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

drinkingbuddiessm Joe Swanberg’s SXSW premiered “Drinking Buddies”, as the title suggests, features a lot of alcohol consumption, so it’s no surprise that two new photos from the film rarely feature a character without a glass in their hands. The new photos feature our first look at Anna Kendrick and Ron Livingston as the other two legs of the love quadrangle at the center of the romantic drama.

Olivia Wilde and “New Girl”‘s Jake Johnson have the leads in the mostly improvised film, as two co-workers at a Chicago brewery who spend their shifts drinking and flirting with the line between friendship and something more, which is complicated by the fact that they both have significant others (Kendrick and Livingston). We haven’t seen the film, but it appears Kendrick and Livingston may get in on the blurring of lines between platonic and something more as well. Oh, alcohol, ruiner of lives and relationships. You’re so great.

“Drinking Buddies” releases on VOD on July 25th and in theaters on August 23rd. Two new stills from the film can be found below.

First Look at Jessica Chastain in Liv Ullman’s “Miss Julie” Adaptation

May 14, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

missjulie001sm Jessica Chastain has seemingly scarcely had a break since she burst onto the scene in 2011, and today we have our first photo of her in her first film since landing her second Oscar nomination in as many years. Screen Daily visited the set of Liv Ullman’s adaptation of iconic Swedish play “Miss Julie” and have released the first photo of Chastain in the titular role.

On the condition that this newest big screen adaptation of Swedish playwright August Strindberg’s 1888 play be in the English language, its setting has been moved from Sweden to Northern Ireland, where the sociopolitical environment is said to be similar. Chastain plays the upper class young woman who decides to go dance at the servants’ annual midsummer party for a bit of fun, and becomes drawn to John (Colin Farrell), who is particularly well-read and worldly despite his lower class standing. The two bond and form an attraction to each other even as they battle each other over issues regarding power, sex and freedom. Samantha Morton, as the house’s cook and Jean’s fiancee, witnesses the events as they unfold.

“Miss Julie” has no release date yet, but for now you can see the first photo of Chastain below and head over to Screen Daily for more, including the first photo of Farrell and other behind the scenes pictures.

New “Divergent” Photo Has Shailene Woodley on Edge

May 14, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

divergent001sm We’ve seen Shailene Woodley getting knives thrown at her, and a new still image from “Divergent” (via EW once again) features the heroine known as Tris Prior in even more danger. It’s not easy being Dauntless!

For those who haven’t read the books, Woodley’s Tris lives in a futuristic dystopian Chicago where inhabitants are divided into factions based on dominant character traits. She’s left Abnegation, the selfless faction she was born into, for Dauntless, made up of the bravest citizens. “In this photo she’s already jumped off the train and onto a seven story building as part of the initiation rite for the Dauntless,” director Neil Burger explains the photo to EW. “The next thing they have to do is jump from the building and down through a courtyard that has a deep, black hole. It’s terrifying.”

If you squint, I believe you can see Jai Courtney as Dauntless leader Eric as well as Tris’ fellow Dauntless initiates Peter (Miles Teller) and Christina (Zoe Kravitz), looking on as Tris is once again the first to make the leap. “Divergent” will be released on March 21, 2014 and the new photo can be found below.

First Look at Dane DeHaan in “Metallica Through the Never”

May 10, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

dane-metallicasm 3D concert films up to this point have felt like blatant grabs at the loose wallets of parents of tween girls (“Katy Perry: Part of Me”, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” and so on) but this one sounds altogether something completely different. “Metallica Through the Never” is more like “a dramatic movie in which a concert takes place”, producer Charlotte Huggins tells EW.

To that end, the film will feature acting from one of our favorite rising stars, Dane DeHaan, as a roadie for the legendary rock band who is sent out during a concert into a chaotic city to complete a mysterious task, and EW also has our first look at DeHaan in a scene from the Nimród Antal film. Looks like he finds himself in the middle of a street riot, while back in the stadium, a Metallica concert rages on. In 3D. The concert scenes were filmed especially for this movie and not taken at existing concert tour stops, also differing from other concert films.

“Metallica Through the Never” will be released in 3D and on IMAX screens on September 27th and you can see the first photo of DeHaan below.

New Images from Sundance Hit “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” Starring Rooney Mara and Casey Affleck

May 9, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

atbssm For months now we’ve had to settle for one measly picture from one of our most anticipated films of the year, David Lowery’s “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”, but today, The Playlist has gifted us with four new images from the film featuring lead trio Rooney Mara, Casey Affleck and Ben Foster.

In the slow-moving, beautifully shot Texas outlaw drama, Affleck and Mara play a pair of passionate young lovers whose crime spree ends in a shootout with police in the Texas hills. She wounds an officer, but he takes the blame and goes to prison. Meanwhile, she has their baby, and four years later, he’s broken out and is on his way to reunite with her and the daughter he’s never met. She’s conflicted about the reunion, and things are muddied further by Foster’s presence as a police officer (the same one she wounded years earlier? It seems unclear) who’s interested in taking over the role of the man in her life.

The film won a Special Jury Prize for Cinematography at Sundance for DP Bradford Young, and will be released on August 16th, with stops at Cannes and in LA first. See the new photos below.

First Look at Zoe Kravitz in M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”

May 8, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

afterearth-zoekravitzsm Zoe Kravitz seems to be collecting sci-fi franchises with roles in “X-Men: First class” and next year’s “Divergent”, and today we have our first look at the rising actress in M. Night Shyamalan’s “After Earth”, thanks to Blackfilm.

Kravitz plays daughter to Will Smith and Sophie Okonedo and brother to Jaden Smith in the family-friendly adventure set 1,000 years after Earth has been destroyed and abandoned. Father and son, both members of the peacekeeping army Ranger Corps, go on a mission to Earth that crashes and kills everyone else on board. Dad is a decorated Captain, and the son is a weakling who’s probably going to spend the movie proving he’s just as heroic as his dad as he battles a wild and untamed Earth, but either way it sounds like Kravitz probably won’t have to much to do as one of the womenfolk who get left behind on their new planet Nova Prime.

The first photo features Kravitz and the junior Smith inside some kind of orb. Is he a bubble boy? Is this movie about a bubble boy?? Anyway, see it below and catch “After Earth” when it’s released on May 31st.

First Look: Shailene Woodley in Danger in First Photo from “Divergent”

April 24, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

divergent001sm Shailene Woodley gets up close and personal with some knives in the first official photo from currently-filming YA adaptation “Divergent”, revealed this morning by EW.

Woodley plays Tris Prior in Neil Burger’s adaptation of Veronica Roth’s popular dystopian teen series, a young girl growing up in a futuristic Chicago whose society is broken up into factions based on dominant character traits. Fans of the book will recognize this picture as the knife-throwing scene, which is supposed to – somehow – test Tris’s bravery now that she’s chosen the Dauntless faction over her original Abnegation.

Filming has been taking place in Chicago for a few weeks with Theo James in the male lead role of Four, Jai Courtney and Miles Teller in antagonistic roles and Ansel Elgort and Zoe Kravits among Tris’ allies. No word yet when we might see some of them (some of whom are, in fact, the ones throwing those knives at Woodley), but material will probably be trickling out from now until the film’s release on March 21, 2014.

See the first photo from “Divergent” below.

First Look at Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn in “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″

April 21, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 2 Comments

tasm-harrysm We’ve seen glimpses of Andrew Garfield, Shailene Woodley, Emma Stone and even Jamie Foxx looking quite outlandish as Electro filming “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ around New York over the past couple of months, and not to be left out, today Dane DeHaan has taken to Twitter to give us what appears to be the first official photo of Harry Osborn.

DeHaan, like his fellow newbie Woodley, looks good to us taking on the iconic role of Peter Parker’s best friend turned enemy and the son of the Green Goblin, Norman Osborn (to be played by Chris Cooper in this new retelling). Wearing a fancy suit and climbing into the back of a private car, looking slightly angry and sinister, DeHaan looks well suited to the rich outsider Harry first glimpsed in Marvel comics in 1965.

The sequel’s cast also includes Paul Giamatti as the villainous Rhino and Felicity Jones in an unspecified role, neither of whom have been spotted yet. But with filming due to continue through July, hopefully we’ll get some more details about their characters soon. But for now, it looks as if we’ve gotten a look at most of the main characters featured in the continuation of Marc Webb’s “Untold Story” of Spider-Man.

The first photo of DeHaan as Harry can be viewed below, and “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ will be released on May 2, 2014.

New “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Images Reveal First Look at Willow Shields with Jennifer Lawrence

April 12, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

catchingfiresm “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, has been running a social media marketing campaign wherein they reveal new images over at Hunger Games Explorer in exchange for tweets of designated movie-related hashtags, and we have our first look at Willow Shields reprising her role as the youngest Everdeen sister Prim in one of the recently uncovered images.

But fear not, there’s also new images of the main attraction of these movies, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, looking grim and battered as always. Nothing new yet of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale or newcomers Sam Claflin and Jena Malone as Finnick and Johanna, respectively, but they’ll probably turn up soon – it’s just a matter of how fast teenage girls can tweet. It’s also been reported today by Showbiz 411 that some kind of star-studded presentation for the film may take place next month at the Cannes Film Festival. We will be there, and will hopefully get to see it, whatever it may turn out to be.

In the meantime, you can see the new photos below, and the Francis Lawrence-directed film itself will be released on November 22nd.
