Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara walk and talk and fight and make up against a gorgeously shot backdrop of trees and sunshine in the first clip from Sundance hit “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints”, released today by Entertainment Weekly.

David Lowery directed the film about Mara and Affleck as an outlaw couple whose crime spree comes to an end with him going to jail and her going free to give birth to their daughter. It picks up four years later when he breaks free and she’s not sure if she still wants him back in her new little family’s life. The film won a Special Jury Prize for Cinematography for Bradford Young at Sundance, it’s easy to see why in this first glimpse of the slow-moving Texas-set film that’s drawn comparisons to Terrence Malick.

Watch the first clip of Mara and Affleck below. We’re hoping to catch the film at the Cannes Film Festival this week, and everyone can watch it when it’s released in theaters on August 16th.

Watch: Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston Rock Out with Bad Hair in First Clips from “Only Lovers Left Alive”

No stoic, brooding vampires here. Jim Jarmusch’s “Only Lovers Left Alive”, which is premiering at Cannes next week, features Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as centuries-long on and off lovers who are reunited, and now we have the first two clips from the film.

Mia Wasikowska plays Swinton’s wild child little sister (presumably also a vampire) and Anton Yelchin apparently her beau if we go by the first two musically-themed clips. Are they a vampire rock band?! Hair metal seems more appropriate given all the wild locks the quartet are sporting.

“Only Lovers Left Alive” premieres in the latter half of the Cannes Film Festival, so we will likely miss it, but this remains one of our most anticipated of the year. Hopefully it’ll find distribution soon. In the meantime, watch the first two clips from the film below.

Watch: Emma Watson Pole Dances in First Clip From “The Bling Ring”

blingring

Hermione goes very, very bad in the first clip from Sofia Coppola’s highly anticipated true life crime caper “The Bling Ring”, which sees Emma Watson, Taissa Farmiga and gang infiltrating a very posh celebrity’s closet and going a little wild.

No word on who the victim of this first robbery is – it could be Paris Hilton, Rachel Bilson, Megan Fox or any number of other celebrities who would have walls full of shoes and a, um, fully-equipped “nightclub room” inside their home – but the teenage robbers, who are all very well-off themselves, are clearly in awe of the kind of wealth even they could not comprehend. The gang is led by newcomers Katie Chang and Israel Broussard, but obviously all anyone is going to be talking about is former good girl Watson taking a turn on the pole.

“The Bling Ring” will be released on June 14th and will likely have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival next month. The full trailer will be released today during the MTV Movie Awards and the first clip can be viewed below.

Watch: First clip from Sundance-bound “Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes” starring Kaya Scodelario

Kaya Scodelario takes the sullen teenager act to a new level in our first look at a scene from “Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes”, the Francesca Gregorini drama headed for a Sundance premiere next week. Scodelario plays the titular character, who is drawn into mystery and drama when she meets her next door neighbor Linda, played by Jessica Biel, who is a doppelganger of Emanuel’s dead mother. Linda has her own issues stemming from the death of her baby, and carries around a lifelike doll which she believes is her child. Emanuel begins to babysit the doll in order to get closer to Linda.

The first scene released from the film sees Scodelario’s Emanuel having a bit of trouble communicating with her father, played by Alfred Molina, about her new job at the dinner table. You can watch it below, and catch “Emanuel and the Truth About Fishes” at Sundance when it premieres next Friday night. The film has no distribution and no release date yet.

First clips from “Les Miserables” feature “On My Own”, “A Heart Full of Love” and more iconic songs

November 30, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos Leave a comment

Guys, we are less than one month away from one of the most anticipated cinematic moments in decades. A big screen adaptation of “Les Miserables” has been in the works since as early as the 1990s, but it took until 2012 to make it a reality, and now we are finally beginning to see the fruits of this decades-long endeavor with the first scene clips from the film being released.

Tom Hooper cast a trio of relative unknowns for the pivotal roles of Cosette, Marius and Eponine, and below we have the first clips of Amanda Seyfried, Eddie Redmayne and Samantha Barks, respectively, singing some of their most famous songs from the international blockbuster musical. Redmayne and Seyfried sing the first few verses of “A Heart Full of Love” as Marius and Cosette meet and fall for the first time, while Barks appropriately takes on “On My Own”, which speaks of Eponine’s unrequited love for Marius. Also below is Anne Hathaway in a clip not from the now often-heard “I Dreamed a Dream”, but from “At the End of the Day”, the circumstances of which lead to that heartbreaking showstopper.

“Les Miserables” will be released on December 25th. What a Christmas present indeed.

Watch: Yup, Saoirse Ronan is a vampire alright in first clip from Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium”

September 7, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos 3 Comments

She may look sweet and innocent, but Saoirse Ronan leaves no question about what she actually is in our first look at a scene from Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium.” The film premieres this Sunday at the Toronto International Film Festival, and also stars Gemma Arterton as Clara, Ronan’s charcter Eleanor’s mother/vampire sire, and Sam Riley as Darvell and Caleb Landry Jones as Frank, the human boys they cross paths with.

In this clip, Jones’ Frank has clearly injured his hand pretty badly and Eleanor helps him home to his parents. Eleanor is visibly tempted by Frank’s spilled blood that still lies around her on the floor, and as the family drive away to the hospital, she does something that really grossed me out. But hey, I’m a lightweight when it comes to this stuff. Check it out below for yourself.

Watch: Zac Efron in first clip from Ramin Bahrani’s “At Any Price”

August 31, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos Leave a comment

Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid can’t quite bridge the generational divide in our first look at footage from Ramin Bahrani’s family drama “At Any Price.” Quaid plays a small town farmer struggling to save the family business and hoping to entice his youngest son (Efron) into stepping in and helping out, but junior has plans of his own, of the stock car racing variety.

The first clip from the film, which just premiered at the Venice Film Festival and will head to Telluride and Toronto next, clearly shows the awkwardness and tension between father and son, with dad left a bit heartbroken as his son blows him off after a victory to hang out with his friends. Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the film, though no release date has been set yet.

See the first clip below and hope that we get a trailer with a more comprehensive view of the film soon.

Watch: Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens angst it out in first clip from Venice-bound “Spring Breakers”

August 28, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos 1 Comment

Well, this is quite a departure from the Disney princesses these girls once were. In Harmony Korine’s Venice and Toronto bound “Spring Breakers”, Selena Gomez, Ashley Benson and Vanessa Hudgens (along with Korine’s wife Rachel Korine) are all grown up, playing bored college students whose spring break vacation goes wrong after they’re caught robbing a restaurant to fund their plans. James Franco’s K-Fed inspired drug dealer bails them out, but naturally wants them to do him a favor in return.

Today The Playlist has dug up the first clip from the film, which seems to prelude the girls’ eventual descent into debauchery. Gomez narrates that feeling of angsty ennui that everything is always the same, in the way that only teenagers can understand, while Hudgens practices her shooting and Benson and Korine sit around and look bored, in the way that only teenagers can.

Really not too sure what to make of this one, so the reviews coming out of Venice and Toronto next week will be very interesting. Watch the first clip below and give us your first impressions.

Watch: Scarlett Johansson kicks ass as Black Widow in first clip from “The Avengers”

April 5, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos Leave a comment

Oh silly bad guys, you just don’t know who you’re dealing with. Scarlett Johansson may look defeated, being all tied to a chair and outnumbered by you three to one and all, but she’s not worried. She’s an Avenger, and you’re about to have the tables turned on you. The first clip from Joss Whedon’s all-star superhero team-up “The Avengers” has the Black Widow showing that you can in fact accomplish important tasks while talking on your cell phone.

It’s a cool fight scene reminiscent of the one she got to have in her first appearance opposite Robert Downey, Jr. in “Iron Man 2″, and it’s a good sign that hopefully “The Avengers” is going to provide ample screentime and action opportunities for all its heroes, not just the ones who have had their own movies.

“The Avengers” assemble on May 4th. Watch the first clip from the movie below.

All eyes are on the Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) love story as they head into “The Hunger Games” to battle each other and 22 other kids to the death, but before she leaves, Lawrence’s Katniss gets one last visit from her best friend and hunt partner Gale, played by Liam Hemsworth, in this new clip. He knows better than anyone that she is well-equipped to handle herself in the arena and as we’ve seen in previous trailers, Gale’s words of encouragement stay with her as she navigates the jungle and fights for her life.

We are now 4 days away from the opening of “The Hunger Games.” Watch the clip below, or don’t. You can hold out for 4 more days!
