First Official Still of Natalie Portman in Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

May 15, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

knightofcupssm The first official image from Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” is basically what we’d expected it to be, based on set photos from about a year ago. THR has the first photo of Natalie Portman and Christian Bale frolicking in the waves, and reports footage from the secretive auteur’s latest will be screened for potential buyers at Cannes this week.

The film is now said to be about celebrities and excess, while it had been previously reported that Bale plays a man “on a search for love and truth.” Not that the two are mutually exclusive, of course. In addition to Portman, Bale was also photographed filming very similar beach frolicking scenes with a variety of young actresses including Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, Teresa Palmer and Isabel Lucas. The film also stars Cate Blanchett.

See the first photo of Portman and Bale in “Knight of Cups” below. It has no US distributor just yet.

Imogen Poots joins Zac Efron in rom com “Are We Officially Dating?”

November 5, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Imogen Poots is the latest to sign on to ensemble romantic comedy “Are We Officially Dating?”, reports Deadline. Zac Efron and Miles Teller are already on board playing two of three best friends in New York who make a pledge to give up on relationships, just as they each begin to fall in love. Presumably Poots will play one of the young ladies. “True Blood”‘s Deborah Ann Woll is also attached to play one of the guys’ ex-wife in the film to be directed this month in New York by Tom Gormican.

Poots, last seen opposite Anton Yelchin in “Fright Night”, is wrapping up filming on Nick Hornby novel adaptation “A Long Way Down”, in which she stars with “Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul, and then the duo will also film Dreamworks’ video game adaptation “Need for Speed” together early next year. She also may still be in the running to play Sharon Carter opposite Chris Evans in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”

Imogen Poots reunites with “A Long Way Down” co-star Aaron Paul for “Need for Speed” adaptation

Imogen Poots has landed the female lead role in video game adaptation “Need for Speed”, according to THR, and will be reuniting with her “A Long Way Down” co-star Aaron Paul, who was the first to sign on to the big budget blockbuster a couple of weeks ago.

Brothers George Gatins and John Gatins developed the original story which is based on the entire Electronic Arts video game franchise, rather than one specific game. According to the press release, it will be “a fast-paced, high-octane film rooted in the tradition of the great car culture films of the 70s while being extremely faithful to the spirit of the video game franchise.” Poots will play a rising star on the stock car racing scene, whose father has “bet the farm” on her winning. No word yet on Paul’s male lead role. Scott Waugh is attached to direct, with a tentative early 2013 shoot planned, for a projected 2014 release.

Poots, last seen on the big screen in the remake of “Fright Night” opposite Anton Yelchin, recently wrapped up roles in Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”, Jimi Hendrix biopic “All is By My Side” and Nick Hornby novel adaptation “A Long Way Down.” She may still be in the running to play the female lead opposite Chris Evans in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, though the “Need for Speed” schedule would seem to cast some doubt on that front.

Natalie Portman sought for Jackie Kennedy biopic

September 28, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Fox Searchlight is courting their “Black Swan” star and Oscar winner Natalie Portman to play the titular role in Jackie Kennedy biopic “Jackie”, according to Deadline.

Noah Oppenheim wrote the script, which chronicles Kennedy’s life immediately following the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy. “Black Swan” director Darren Aronofsky had at one point been attached to direct the film, which had his then-wife Rachel Weisz attached to the role, but had fallen out. Steven Spielberg also showed interest in the project in 2010. Portman’s deal is said to be contingent upon her approval of the director.

After winning the Best Actress Oscar for “Black Swan” in 2011, Portman took some time off to have a baby, but has been back to work, seen earlier this summer filming Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” with Christian Bale. She’ll also star in Malick’s untitled next feature, formerly called “Lawless”, which is now underway in Austin with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara and is expected to reprise her role as Jane Foster in “Thor: The Dark World”, which is also now filming. Portman will also produce and star in Western “Jane Got a Gun” in early 2013, and recently snagged Michael Fassbender for the male lead.

First look at Isabel Lucas on the set of “Knight of Cups” with newest unannounced cast addition Teresa Palmer

Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, and now Teresa Palmer. Terrence Malick is checking young actresses off one by one as he films them frolicking on the beach with Christian Bale for his new film, “Knight of Cups.” Today we have our first look at Palmer in the waves, just like her predecessors, this time joined by an actual previously announced cast member, fellow Aussie Isabel Lucas, thanks to Just Jared.

Unlike her predecessors, Palmer is seen in the arms of Bale’s frequent beach buddy, Wes Bentley, while Lucas takes the road more traveled by strolling hand-in-hand with Bale, like Pinto and Natalie Portman before her. Thus far Palmer is the only lady seen with Bently, so could this mean her chances of showing up in Malick’s final cut are higher than her counterparts? Hard to say without any semblance of a plot or release date in sight. Bale, Portman and Cate Blanchett will move on with Malick this fall to music-centric romance “Lawless” with Ryan Gosling, Haley Bennett and Rooney Mara, but no word if any of the frolicking beach bunnies will join them as well.

See the photos of Palmer and Lucas below and head over to Just Jared for more. Which young actress will be wooed in the waves next? Felicity Jones? Brit Marling? Amanda Seyfried seems like a safe bet too. Leave us your guesses!

Freida Pinto the latest to be romanced by Christian Bale in set photos from Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

June 27, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

It seems Natalie Portman and Imogen Poots are just not enough for Christian Bale. In Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”, Bale plays a man “on a search for love and truth”, and apparently what that entails is wooing one beautiful young lady after another. His latest conquest: “Slumdog Millionaire” star Freida Pinto.

The new photos really don’t give us any new insight into what the film is about, other than Bale’s character gets around a lot, and should try to come up with some new places other than the beach to take his dates. In addition to Portman and Poots, Bale has also been seen filming with Cate Blanchett. There’s still one announced cast member unaccounted for via set photos, and that’s Australian actress Isabel Lucas.

See the new photos below and more of Bale and Pinto over at The Playlist, who also have new shots of Bale frolicking with Wes Bentley. Who will we see pop up on the beach with Bale next?

Set photos reveal Imogen Poots also part of Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” with Christian Bale

June 12, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

Terrence Malick’s new movies continue to get curiorser and curiorser. Notoriously secretive, it was a miracle Malick allowed anyone to release cast lists and titles at all for his two upcoming back-to-back features, “Lawless” and “Knight of Cups”, which is now filming in LA. From the sole press release, we know Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett would be part of both films, and that Haley Bennett, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara would join them for the former, while Aussie actress Isabel Lucas is part of the latter.

Well, now new photos from the set of “Knight of Cups” seem to reveal a new cast member that had been kept under wraps for whatever reason, and it’s British rising star Imogen Poots, here sporting punk-rock black hair with yellow streaks and an all black ensemble – something we’ve noticed is a bit of a trend on this pair of movies. Bale and Poots look decidedly less romantic in these shots than he has previously with Portman and Bennett, so it’s unclear what the relationship is here, though we do know he plays a man on a search for “love and truth.” Gee, can they vague that up for us? Similarly, “Lawless” is about love as well, two intersecting love triangles to be precise. And while they share much of the same cast and set photos from both films seem way too similar to be coincidental, it’s (tentatively) believed the two films are stand-alones.

See the new photos of Poots shooting with Bale below, courtesy of The Playlist, and be sure to head over there for more.

First Look: Natalie Portman romanced by Christian Bale on the beachside set of Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

May 31, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 6 Comments

New mom/Oscar winner Natalie Portman is back at work and today we have our first look at the actress on the beach in Malibu, filming a playful and romantic scene with Christian Bale for Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups.” British newspaper The Daily Mail snapped photos of the two playing in the waves, holding hands and being downright adorable in the highly secretive film that’s only the first of two that Malick will shoot back to back this summer and fall.

Naturally, very little is known about each film, and while Malick maintains they will be standalone features, “Knight of Cups” and follow-up, (the previously titled) “Lawless”, feature much of the same cast and similar themes. Bale, Portman, Cate Blanchett, Wes Bentley and Isabel Lucas star in “Knight of Cups” described as one man’s search for love and truth, while Bale, Portman and Blanchett will also go on to star in “Lawless” with Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett, which revolves around two intersecting love triangles set against the backdrop of the Texas music scene. And hey, are we seeing one of those intersecting love triangles being formed already?

We are probably still a long ways away from getting any solid answers, so for now, check out the new photos of Bale and Portman below and hit up The Daily Mail for a bunch more. We can only assume “Knight of Cups” may be slated for sometime in 2013. Malick’s still got “To the Wonder” (with Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Olga Kurylenko, etc) to release first.

Natalie Portman heads for Western “Jane Got a Gun”

May 22, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Natalie Portman is attached to produce and star in Western “Jane Got a Gun”, according to THR. The suddenly hot property is being shopped to financiers at Cannes and in addition to Portman’s star power, it also has a director in “We Need to Talk About Kevin”‘s Lynne Ramsey with a Black List script by Brian Duffield. Needless to say, a bidding war for both financing and distribution is currently underway.

Portman will play a woman whose husband returns home riddled with bullet wounds and barely alive, the result of his outlaw gang turning on him. She’s forced to turn to an ex-boyfriend for help in defending her farm when the gang eventually finds their way to her front door to finish the job of killing her husband.

Portman, who will not be in Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor” after all (the role went to Penelope Cruz), took a brief hiatus after winning her first Oscar for Darren Aronofsky’s “Black Swan” to have a baby, but is now ready to go back to work, with Terrence Malick’s back-to-back “Knight of Cups” and (formerly) “Lawless” as her first comeback vehicles.

Natalie Portman in talks for Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor”; Jeremy Renner vs Javier Bardem for villain role

March 8, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

Michael Fassbender may be meeting his friends and foes for Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor” soon. Twitch Film reports that Natalie Portman is in early talks to take on the role of love interest Laura, while Jeremy Renner remains a top contender for the villain role of Reiner, though Scott is said to be leaning towards Javier Bardem. No official offers nor negotiations have commenced.

Scripted by Cormac McCarthy, “The Counselor” has been described as “‘No Country For Old Men’ on steroids.” Fassbender will play a lawyer who decides to dip his toe into the drug business without getting in too deep. Of course, that doesn’t turn out so well for him. Laura unwittingly gets dragged into the mess, while another pivotal female role, Malkina, has yet to be filled. All the roles should be locked down soon, given how quickly the turnaround has been thus far and with a May start date looming.

Acting steadily since she was 13, Portman received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for 2004′s “Closer” and followed it up with a win her second time around for Best Actress in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological ballerina thriller “Black Swan.” Always deft at doing both indie and mainstream films, she followed it up with a couple of lower brow comedies, “No Strings Attached” and “Your Highness”, and played love interest to Chris Hemsworth in Marvel’s blockbuster hit “Thor.” It was thought her return to acting would be in a pair of Terrence Malick films – “Lawless” and “Knight of Cups” – filming this summer and fall, but if she signs on, “The Counselor” will get that distinction instead.
