REVIEW: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’

It’s been fifteen years since the last “Star Wars” movie and, let’s face it, more like thirty-two since the last really good one, but “The Force Awakens” more than makes up for lost time. The JJ Abrams-directed film is a “Star Wars” movie through and through, with all the adventure, fun, good vs. evil archetypes, adorable droids and characters to relaunch the franchise successfully for an all new generation. Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are all back, mostly for the nostalgia factor for longtime fans, but it’s reallyRead More

John Boyega’s Finn takes center stage in a new 30 second spot previewing “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” The new footage shows off Finn’s journey from storm trooper to hero, which include stops at partnering up with Harrison Ford’s Han Solo, escaping certain danger alongside Daisy Ridley’s Rey and of course, wielding a lightsaber – one that looks suspiciously like the one Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) used in the original trilogy. The new “Star Wars” still remains mostly mysterious, but all will be revealed on December 18, 2015.Read More

The first footage from a new “Star Wars” movie is here. Is this real life?! The first 88 seconds from “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” introduces us to John Boyega as a storm trooper, Daisy Ridley driving some sort of large vehicle through the desert, and Oscar Isaac as an X-Wing pilot. These are the first character details we’ve gotten on any of the actors who were cast earlier this year, though of course the whole thing remains pretty mysterious. There’s also a shot of a mysterious new villain withRead More

After months of speculation, an official list of cast members for “Star Wars: Episode VII” was finally announced earlier this week. Although we still don’t know what kind of characters the cast will play, nor the official title of the film, it has also been confirmed that the Expanded Universe storylines and characters will not be part of the story. That pretty much leaves an empty canvas full of possibilities. Until we receive any hint of the plot, here are 7 things that we want to see in “Star Wars:Read More

We are so close to an official announcement on “Star Wars: Episode VII” casting, we can all basically feel it in the air at this point. But before it’s made officially official, the trades are all out in force to toss out a final rumor or two that may or may not be substantiated in the end. The biggest revelation today, via Deadline, The Wrap and THR, is that Oscar Isaac may be among the names called when the announcement is made. Both THR and The Wrap reporters mention IsaacRead More

John Boyega Sought for ‘Terminator: Genesis’

If John Boyega doesn’t end up getting the lead in “Star Wars: Episode VII,” he may have a pretty solid backup plan already in place. THR reporter Borys Kit tweets that Boyega is being sought for one of the lead roles in Alan Taylor’s reboot “Terminator: Genesis.” The role Boyega is up for is that of Danny Dyson, the son of Miles Dyson, the cybernetics scientist who invented the neural-net processor that eventually becomes Skynet and wipes out humanity. Emilia Clarke is on board as a young Sarah Connor, whileRead More

We’ve got Adam Driver as the villain, but who will be the Jedi to take him on in “Star Wars: Episode VII”? Variety reports it just may be one of these five relatively unknown young actors: Ed Speleers, John Boyega, Jesse Plemons, Matthew James Thomas and Ray Fisher. The trade doesn’t specify the character the five men are up for, but does call it “the lead role.” Plemons is the name we’ve heard before in connection with this specific part, and it appears he hasn’t quite locked it down yet,Read More
John Boyega
British actor John Boyega has laid low since breaking out in 2011’s surprise hit “Attack the Block,” but it looks like he’s back with a vengeance, with Variety reporting he’s joined the cast of “24: Live Another Day,” the “event series” next chapter of Fox’s popular “24” series starring Kiefer Sutherland. Sutherland is back as Jack Bauer, and original series regulars Kim Raver, William Devane and Mary Lynn Rajskub are reprising their roles as well. The story kicks off several years after where the original series left off, with YvonneRead More
