Isabel Lucas and Nick Jonas to Star in Thriller “Careful What You Wish For”

March 18, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

careful Nick Jonas is the latest former Disney tween idol looking to break away from that squeaky clean image, and he has enlisted the help of Australia beauty Isabel Lucas to help him do it. It was announced today that the two will star in thriller “Careful What You Wish For”, which aspires to draw comparisons to “Basic Instinct” and “Body Heat.” Right. We’ll see.

Chris Frisina and Gregg Hurwitz wrote the script and Elizabeth Allen will direct the film set on a lake house community. Jonas will play Doug, who has an affair with Lucas’ Lena, the young wife of an investment banker who are renting the lake house next door. Doug finds himself in over his head when her jealous husband ends up dead and his substantial life insurance policy is revealed.

Lucas broke out when she played a very lifelike alien robot in “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and recently wrapped up shooting on Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” opposite Christian Bale. Outside of their Disney-sponsored projects, Jonas is the most prolific about his three brothers, and has done musicals in London and on Broadway and had an arc on the first season of NBC musical series “Smash.”

First look at Isabel Lucas on the set of “Knight of Cups” with newest unannounced cast addition Teresa Palmer

Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, and now Teresa Palmer. Terrence Malick is checking young actresses off one by one as he films them frolicking on the beach with Christian Bale for his new film, “Knight of Cups.” Today we have our first look at Palmer in the waves, just like her predecessors, this time joined by an actual previously announced cast member, fellow Aussie Isabel Lucas, thanks to Just Jared.

Unlike her predecessors, Palmer is seen in the arms of Bale’s frequent beach buddy, Wes Bentley, while Lucas takes the road more traveled by strolling hand-in-hand with Bale, like Pinto and Natalie Portman before her. Thus far Palmer is the only lady seen with Bently, so could this mean her chances of showing up in Malick’s final cut are higher than her counterparts? Hard to say without any semblance of a plot or release date in sight. Bale, Portman and Cate Blanchett will move on with Malick this fall to music-centric romance “Lawless” with Ryan Gosling, Haley Bennett and Rooney Mara, but no word if any of the frolicking beach bunnies will join them as well.

See the photos of Palmer and Lucas below and head over to Just Jared for more. Which young actress will be wooed in the waves next? Felicity Jones? Brit Marling? Amanda Seyfried seems like a safe bet too. Leave us your guesses!

Freida Pinto the latest to be romanced by Christian Bale in set photos from Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

June 27, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

It seems Natalie Portman and Imogen Poots are just not enough for Christian Bale. In Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”, Bale plays a man “on a search for love and truth”, and apparently what that entails is wooing one beautiful young lady after another. His latest conquest: “Slumdog Millionaire” star Freida Pinto.

The new photos really don’t give us any new insight into what the film is about, other than Bale’s character gets around a lot, and should try to come up with some new places other than the beach to take his dates. In addition to Portman and Poots, Bale has also been seen filming with Cate Blanchett. There’s still one announced cast member unaccounted for via set photos, and that’s Australian actress Isabel Lucas.

See the new photos below and more of Bale and Pinto over at The Playlist, who also have new shots of Bale frolicking with Wes Bentley. Who will we see pop up on the beach with Bale next?

Set photos reveal Imogen Poots also part of Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups” with Christian Bale

Terrence Malick’s new movies continue to get curiorser and curiorser. Notoriously secretive, it was a miracle Malick allowed anyone to release cast lists and titles at all for his two upcoming back-to-back features, “Lawless” and “Knight of Cups”, which is now filming in LA. From the sole press release, we know Christian Bale, Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett would be part of both films, and that Haley Bennett, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara would join them for the former, while Aussie actress Isabel Lucas is part of the latter.

Well, now new photos from the set of “Knight of Cups” seem to reveal a new cast member that had been kept under wraps for whatever reason, and it’s British rising star Imogen Poots, here sporting punk-rock black hair with yellow streaks and an all black ensemble – something we’ve noticed is a bit of a trend on this pair of movies. Bale and Poots look decidedly less romantic in these shots than he has previously with Portman and Bennett, so it’s unclear what the relationship is here, though we do know he plays a man on a search for “love and truth.” Gee, can they vague that up for us? Similarly, “Lawless” is about love as well, two intersecting love triangles to be precise. And while they share much of the same cast and set photos from both films seem way too similar to be coincidental, it’s (tentatively) believed the two films are stand-alones.

See the new photos of Poots shooting with Bale below, courtesy of The Playlist, and be sure to head over there for more.

Natalie Portman ends hiatus, joins Terrence Malick’s back-to-back “Knight of Cups” and “Lawless”

New mom and new Oscar winner Natalie Portman is ready to get back to work and has picked a hell of a comeback vehicle. Deadline reports the “Black Swan” actress has committed to starring in both of Terrence Malick’s next movies, which will film back to back this summer and fall. First she’ll do “Knight of Cups” with Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett and Isabel Lucas, and then take on “Lawless”, also with Bale and Blanchett in addition to Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara and Haley Bennett.

Of course, there are no plot details on either project, though “Lawless” perhaps being somewhat musically inclined might be a logical conclusion after Bale and Bennett and then Gosling and Mara were spotted filming… something at various Texas music festivals. That footage is widely believed to be pre-production and rehearsal work, and will not end up in the final film. Also interesting is the crossover cast members between the two films, first Bale and Blanchett, and now Portman as well, though the narratives are said to be separate and distinct.

Acting steadily since she was 13, Portman received her first Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for 2004′s “Closer” and followed it up with a win her second time around for Best Actress in Darren Aronofsky’s psychological ballerina thriller “Black Swan.” Always deft at doing both indie and mainstream films, she followed it up with a couple of lower brow comedies, “No Strings Attached” and “Your Highness”, and played love interest to Chris Hemsworth in Marvel’s blockbuster hit “Thor.” Malick’s films will mark her return to acting since winning the Oscar and having her first baby last June.

Rachael Taylor joins fellow “Transformers” alum Isabel Lucas in indie thriller “Loft”

June 1, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Rachael Taylor is the second “Transformers” beauty to join the cast of indie thriller “Loft”, following in the footsteps of fellow alum Isabel Lucas, who joined the cast last week. Can Megan Fox be far behind? According to Variety, Taylor and Lucas will be part of an ensemble cast that already includes James Marsden, Patrick Wilson, Wentworth Miller and “Modern Family”‘s Eric Stonestreet.

Taking place in and around a loft where five married friends all bring their mistresses, the film is a murder mystery set into motion when an unknown woman’s body turns up there. The friends all begin to suspect one another of murder. While Lucas is set for the role of a “naive young beauty” who unwittingly gets dragged into the events, Taylor will play Ann, a call girl who Wilson pays to seduce Marsden and ends up falling for him. Presumably there will be at least one more male lead and a couple more female roles to be cast. Erik Van Looy is directing the remake of his own 2008 Belgian film, with Wesley Strick adapting Bart De Pauw’s original screenplay.

Taylor broke out in Michael Bay’s first “Transformers” as a computer genius who helped the government, Shia LaBeouf and the earth-saving good Autobots fight against the evil Decepticons. She recently wrapped alien invasion actioner “The Darkest Hour” with Emile Hirsch and Olivia Thirlby, and is one of the new Angels on ABC’s reboot of “Charlie’s Angels”k.

Australian Isabel Lucas joins James Marsden in “Loft”

Australian up and comer Isabel Lucas has been added to the cast of indie thriller Loft, to be directed by Erik Van Looy, who directed the original Belgium film in 2008.

Loft, which also stars Patrick Wilson (Insidious) and James Marsden (Enchanted), tells the story of a group of married friends who rent a loft so that they can have a place to rendezvous with their respective mistresses. Sure enough, drama begins to ensue when the unknown body of a woman is found in the loft leading the friends to become suspicious of each other.
Variety reports state that Lucas will be playing “Sarah, a naive young beauty who unexpectedly comes into the lives of the five friends.”

Lucas first found fame on Australian soap “Home and Away” but since moving to Hollywood has found roles in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and can next be seen alongside Zack Snyder’s chosen Superman, Henry Cavill in the highly anticipated Immortals,

Watch: First trailer for “Immortals” starring Henry Cavill

Looking like “Clash of the Titans” on acid and steroids, director Tarsem Singh turns up the saturated bright colors and glistening bulging muscles of his Greek Gods in the first trailer for “Immortals”. Featuring a new generation of action heroes, the action is led by future Superman Henry Cavill as Theseus, a mortal manipulated by the Greek Gods into battling the mad king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke), who seeks to unleash The Titans, the superpowers that the reigning Olympians banished. The Olympians include Luke Evans as Zeus, Isabel Lucas as Athena and Kellan Lutz as Poseidon while Freida Pinto is also on board as Phaedra, an oracle who can see possible futures, but only if she remains a virgin. This complicates things because, of course, she has a hard time resisting Theseus’s aforementioned glistening muscles.

“Immortals” releases in theaters on November 11, 2011.

First Cast Photo: ‘Red Dawn’

Here is the first cast photo from Red Dawn. Cast includes: Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Josh Hutcherson (RV), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights), Isabel Lucas (Daybreakers), Josh Peck (Drillbit Taylor), Edwin Hodge, Jeffery Dean Morgan (The Losers), Alyssa Diaz, and Connor Cruise.

While the title remains the same, some significant changes to the film have been made, including setting and two additional characters among the “Wolverines” (a title the group of tough teenagers have taken on). In the 1984 version, starring Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen, the “Wolverines” defended their town from Russian invaders. In the remake, the threat comes from China — a script change that met early controversy. The Daily Blam reports that the film drew “sharp criticism from one of the leading Chinese state-run newspapers; which ran headlines such as ‘U.S. reshoots Cold War movie to demonize China’ and ‘American movie plants hostile seeds against China’.”

How will 2011′s Red Dawn stack up to the original, a film that found itself in the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records for most violent film ever made?
