First Look: Lily Collins and Logan Lerman in stills from TIFF selection “Writers”

July 24, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

Announced this morning to be a Special Presentation at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, “Writers” is touted to be a “funny and touching tale of a fractured family trying to rediscover one another over the course of a tumultuous year.” Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly play writers, ex-spouses and parents to Lily Collins‘ Samantha, who is studying writing at college herself, and Nat Wolff‘s Rusty, who’s in high school. Logan Lerman plays classmate and love interest Lou to Samantha, while Rusty has his own romantic entanglements with classmate Kate, as played by Liana Liberato.

The first stills from the film have been released, and give us a glimpse at all members of the Borgens family. Patrick Schwarzenegger, Kristen Bell and even Stephen King in a cameo as himself round out the supporting cast. The Josh Boone directed “Writers” will be distributed by Entertainment One in Canada but has no US or international distribution yet. The first images of Collins, Lerman and Wolff can be seen below, while TIFF.net has even more of the rest of the cast.

First Look: Elle Fanning and Alice Englert are “Ginger and Rosa” in stills from 1960s coming of age drama

July 24, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Sally Potter’s 1960s set coming of age drama “Ginger and Rosa” (formerly titled “Bomb”) was just announced this morning to be a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival and the first photo from the film as been released as well. Rising stars Elle Fanning and Alice Englert (who filmed this before landing potential teen franchise “Beauitful Creatures”) star as a pair of lifelong best friends whose diverging ideologies at such a politically volatile time in history also clashes with personal betrayals.

Fanning’s Ginger is at the heart of the story, with Alessandro Nivola as her father, a charismatic writer who puts his family at risk when he has an affair with Englert’s Rosa. Annette Bening, Timothy Spall, Oliver Platt and “Mad Men” star Christina Hendricks round out the supporting cast.

“Ginger and Rosa” has no distribution or release date yet. The first photo from the film can be seen below.

New photos from TIFF-bound “Byzantium” include first looks at Gemma Arterton and Sam Riley

July 24, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Vampires are coming to Toronto, but when they look like Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan, how bad could it be? Neil Jordan’s “Byzantium” was just announced this morning as a Special Presentation at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival and now new photos from the film have been released, which include our first looks at Arterton and Sam Riley (we’ve already seen the first image of Ronan, though there’s a couple of new ones of her here as well).

Previously trying to remain mysterious and described as “two mysterious and penniless young women who flee the scene of a violent crime and end up in a run-down coastal resort where the past they’ve been running from may finally catch up with them”, TIFF’s official description of the film is much more explicit, calling it a “deliciously depraved supernatural drama” about “a pair of female vampires (Saorsie Ronan and Gemma Arterton) [who wreak] havoc on an unsuspecting English seaside community.” Riley and Caleb Landry Jones are the two young, presumably human, men who get caught up in the mother-daughter duo’s web.

“Byzantium” has no distribution and no release date yet, though TIFF should rectify that. See the new photos below.

First images of Shia LaBeouf and Brit Marling in Robert Redford’s “The Company You Keep”

July 23, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Perhaps in advance of tomorrow’s TIFF line-up announcement, where it’s highly likely to premiere, the first stills from Robert Redford’s political thriller “The Company You Keep” have been released via Collider and they include our first looks at stars Shia LaBeouf and Brit Marling.

LaBeouf and Redford play cat and mouse in the actioner, officially summarized thus: “Jim Grant (Redford), a civil rights lawyer and single father must go on the run when a brash young reporter (LaBeouf), exposes his true identity as a former 1970s radical fugitive wanted for murder. Sparking a nationwide manhunt, Grant sets off on a cross-country journey to clear his name.” The large and impressive supporting cast is rounded out by Julie Christie, Sam Elliott, Brendan Gleeson, Terrence Howard, Richard Jenkins, Anna Kendrick, Stanley Tucci, Nick Nolte, Chris Cooper, and Susan Sarandon.

The stills are rather generic and tell us nothing about the characters, but the premise and strong cast are enough to keep us eagerly awaiting its release, now estimated to be sometime in the spring of 2013. In the meantime, we’re hoping we hear its title announced tomorrow morning, alongside other films that will be making their way to Toronto next month.

The two stills of LaBeouf and Marling can be viewed below, and be sure to head to Collider for more.

First Look: Liam Hemsworth and Lucas Till sent packing in photos from the set of “Paranoia”

July 23, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

It’s a sign of the times and even fictional characters are suffering. Liam Hemsworth and Lucas Till were snapped on the set of their new thriller “Paranoia”, in a scene that sees their characters seemingly fired or laid off from a cushy job. Just Jared has the first photos of the two looking preppy but rather sad as they lug around boxes of items that clearly once littered an office desk. Robert Luketic is currently directing the film in Philadelphia.

Hemsworth plays Adam Cassidy, a low level employee of a high-tech firm who finds himself in trouble and agreeing to become a spy at a rival company. When he discovers he has a knack for the business, he skyrockets to success and achieving, at alarming speed, a luxurious life he never could have dreamed of. When he tries to break free of the people for whom he’s spying, he finds himself in over his head. Till plays a friend and (former?) co-worker. Amber Heard will play Hemsworth’s love interest, and Harrison Ford and Gary Oldman round out the cast.

“Paranoia” is set for a September 23, 2013 release. See more photos of Hemsworth and Till below, and head to Just Jared for more.

First look at Emmy Rossum as bad girl Ridley in teen paranormal romance adaptation “Beautiful Creatures”

July 19, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

You’ve met Ethan and Lena, now “Beautiful Creatures” fans prepare to meet Ridley! EW has the first official image of Emmy Rossum as Lena’s older cousin and fellow sorceress who chose the Dark side over the good and is hellbent on Lena following in her footsteps.

Newcomers Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert play the star-crossed lovers at the heart of the paranormal romance series – he’s a human, she’s a “caster”, or witch – which recently wrapped up filming under the direction of Richard LaGravenese. On Rossum’s Ridley, LaGravenese says, “She and Lena were almost sisters before she was claimed by the Dark, so she wants Lena to be claimed so they can be together again.” Rossum’s Ridley looks decidedly darker and more dramatic than the first still of Ethan and Lena basking in the sunlight, adding that “We get to show the dark side as kind of more fun than the light.”

“Beautiful Creatures”, which will be released on February 13th, 2013, also stars Kyle Gallner, Thomas Mann, Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson. See the first image of Rossum below.

First image of Saoirse Ronan in futuristic wartime drama “How I Live Now”

July 12, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Saoirse Ronan is hard at work filming her next movie, and today we have our first look at the busy young actress as Daisy in Kevin MacDonald’s “How I Live Now”, based on the young adult novel by Meg Rosoff. Rosoff posted the image on her website (via The Playlist), commenting on Ronan’s wardrobe and hair color, telling a fan “I’m not sure it’s how i imagined her originally. I think I thought she’d have dark hair. But now I can’t see Daisy as anyone but Saoirse.”

The film revolves around Ronan’s Daisy, who is forced to go on the run with her cousins when their English countryside residence is beset by unknown enemy armies. Recently British actor George Mackay landed the male lead of Daisy’s cousin and love interest (yep, you read that right) Edmond, while Tom Holland will play another cousin, Osbert, who is a mash-up of two characters from the book.

Filming is now underway in Wales and you can see the first image featuring Ronan’s new platinum-blonde do below.

First look at Isabel Lucas on the set of “Knight of Cups” with newest unannounced cast addition Teresa Palmer

July 8, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Imogen Poots, Freida Pinto, and now Teresa Palmer. Terrence Malick is checking young actresses off one by one as he films them frolicking on the beach with Christian Bale for his new film, “Knight of Cups.” Today we have our first look at Palmer in the waves, just like her predecessors, this time joined by an actual previously announced cast member, fellow Aussie Isabel Lucas, thanks to Just Jared.

Unlike her predecessors, Palmer is seen in the arms of Bale’s frequent beach buddy, Wes Bentley, while Lucas takes the road more traveled by strolling hand-in-hand with Bale, like Pinto and Natalie Portman before her. Thus far Palmer is the only lady seen with Bently, so could this mean her chances of showing up in Malick’s final cut are higher than her counterparts? Hard to say without any semblance of a plot or release date in sight. Bale, Portman and Cate Blanchett will move on with Malick this fall to music-centric romance “Lawless” with Ryan Gosling, Haley Bennett and Rooney Mara, but no word if any of the frolicking beach bunnies will join them as well.

See the photos of Palmer and Lucas below and head over to Just Jared for more. Which young actress will be wooed in the waves next? Felicity Jones? Brit Marling? Amanda Seyfried seems like a safe bet too. Leave us your guesses!

Newcomer Graham Phillips featured on first poster for indie comedy “Goats”

June 27, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Well this has quirky indie comedy written all over it. Fandango have debuted the first poster for “Goats”, starring Graham Phillips as a mature, well-adjusted teenager who’s surrounded by crazy. And by crazy, we clearly mean David Duchovny’s beard. The film also stars one of our favorite rising stars, Dakota Johnson, and will be released on August 10th. The official synopsis and full size poster can be seen below.

“In GOATS, Ellis (Graham Phillips) is the most adult member of his eccentric family at 15 years old. His mom (Vera Farmiga) is a New Age hippie that spends all of her time working on self-help rituals with her hustler boyfriend (Justin Kirk). His dad (Ty Burrell) left home years ago and is more focused on his new wife (Keri Russell) and family. And then there’s Goat Man (David Duchovny), the goat-herding sage who has lived in their pool house since Ellis was a child, teaching him the meaning of stability, commitment, and expanding one’s mind. When Ellis decides to leave Tucson to go to the same East Coast prep school that his father went to, he easily assimilates to his new environment – even gaining the attention of a local girl (Dakota Johnson). But as he re-connects with his estranged father, he finds Goat Man’s influence and his life out West thrown into stark contrast. Based on Mark Jude Poirier’s best-selling novel, director Christopher Neil’s hilarious and poignant film is a witty reversal of the coming of age formula, a beautifully honest portrayal of life with its rough edges, awkward moments, and non-endings.”

Freida Pinto the latest to be romanced by Christian Bale in set photos from Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”

June 27, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

It seems Natalie Portman and Imogen Poots are just not enough for Christian Bale. In Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”, Bale plays a man “on a search for love and truth”, and apparently what that entails is wooing one beautiful young lady after another. His latest conquest: “Slumdog Millionaire” star Freida Pinto.

The new photos really don’t give us any new insight into what the film is about, other than Bale’s character gets around a lot, and should try to come up with some new places other than the beach to take his dates. In addition to Portman and Poots, Bale has also been seen filming with Cate Blanchett. There’s still one announced cast member unaccounted for via set photos, and that’s Australian actress Isabel Lucas.

See the new photos below and more of Bale and Pinto over at The Playlist, who also have new shots of Bale frolicking with Wes Bentley. Who will we see pop up on the beach with Bale next?
