Watch: Trailer for “The Art of Getting By” starring Emma Roberts and Freddie Highmore

The Sundance hit formerly known as “Homework” now has its first official trailer, under its new title “The Art of Getting By”. Starring Freddie Highmore as an art student without much of an artistic voice and Emma Roberts as the dream girl who inevitably becomes his muse, the film was snatched up by Fox Searchlight on the day it premiered in Park City.

The glaring problem we see from this first trailer is that the kids, particularly Highmore, look nowhere near old enough to be going through the romantic teen angst that embroils their characters. The only true moments of romantic tension seem to occur between Roberts and Michael Angarano, who comes on the scene as a 20-something mentor to Highmore’s young artist, making a much more age-appropriate coupling, at least visually, and as far as we can tell from two minutes and twenty seconds of montage clips.

“The Art of Getting By” releases in theaters on June 17th.

Today is the official first day of the annual Sundance Film Festival, so we are just around the corner from discovering some of the year’s best indie features and tomorrow’s breakout stars. Two years ago, Gabourey Sidibe and Mo’Nique broke out in a big way in “Precious: Based on the Novel by Sapphire”, riding buzz all the way to the Oscars, and who could forget last year, when “Winter’s Bone” premiered in Park City and people haven’t stopped talking about Jennifer Lawrence since?

There are sure to be some surprises that come out of nowhere to grab the attention of the festival and soon, the country, but based on what we know right now – the casts in particular – here are just a few of the films that we’re excited to see.
