Ryan Gosling’s ‘The Idolmaker’ Remake

Ryan Gosling takes on his directorial debut with a reboot of the 1980 musical drama The Idolmaker. Not only will Gosling be working behind the camera, he will also star in the film, according to a Deadline exclusive.

The Idolmaker — originally directed by Taylor Hackford, and starring Ray Sharkey, Peter Gallagher, and Joe Pantoliano — is the story of Bob Marcucci, a rock promoter/producer who discovered Frankie Avalon and Fabian.

Gosling has been beyond busy lately as Drive (also starring Carey Mulligan) finds success in Cannes, Crazy, Stupid, Love (with Steve Carell) releases in July, and Logan’s Run, Gangster Squad (with Sean Penn), and The Place Beyond the Pines are all in production. Gosling fans can rest assured that this 30-year-old’s career is only continuing to build momentum, not a decline in sight.
