Jessica Chastain Joining Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar”

May 2, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Christopher Nolan’s space epic “Interstellar” just got a little more stellar. Deadline reports Jessica Chastain is now in talks to join the cast that already boasts Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway.

The project has been in development for years, at one point with Steven Spielberg attached to direct, but now it’s being fast-tracked with Nolan on board directing from a script written by his brother and frequent collaborator Jonathan Nolan. Like everything he does, there are very few plot details available, but it deals with a group of scientific explorers who encounter time travel and alternate dimensions through a wormhole, or “a heroic interstellar voyage to the farthest borders of our scientific understanding.” Filming will probably begin soon as the film already has a November 7, 2014 release date.

Chastain is staying as busy as ever since being nominated for her second Oscar for Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty.” She’s already filming the first follow-up, Liv Ulman’s adaptation of “Miss Julie”, and will do Guillermo Del Toro’s “Crimson Peak” in the spring of 2014. That film reunites her with Emma Stone, with whom she co-starred in “The Help”, which landed her her first Oscar nom in 2011. Just yesterday she became attached to WWII drama “The Zookeeper’s Wife.”

Anne Hathaway to Reunite with Christopher Nolan for “Interstellar”

anne-hathaway Sorry haters, Anne Hathaway is having a hell of a moment and it doesn’t look like it’ll be over anytime soon. After playing Catwoman in last year’s “The Dark Knight Rises”, the new Oscar winner is now set to reunite with director Christopher Nolan on his highly secretive, highly anticipated next project, according to Deadline. The apty-titled space-set blockbuster “Interstellar” already has Matthew McConaughey set for one of the other lead roles.

Hathaway, after having previously been nominated for “Rachel Getting Married”, won her first Academy Award for her role as Fantine in “Les Miserables” earlier this year and appears to have no plans to slow down. “Interstellar” is already her second film commitment since winning her Oscar, as she also recently signed on to star in Lynn Shelton’s dark indie comedy “Laggies” opposite Chloe Moretz, Sam Rockwell and Mark Webber.

Kate Mara Joining “Transcendence” Opposite Johnny Depp

March 27, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

kate-mara Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut has added Kate Mara to the cast, according to Variety. The older Mara sister will be joining Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Paul Bettany in sci-fi thriller “Transcendence”, which begins filming next month.

Though the official tagline is now being kept under wraps, from earlier reports we’ve gathered that Hall will play a scientist named Evelyn, who is married to and uploads Depp’s character Will’s brain onto a supercomputer after his death. Bettany will play Max, a male friend of the couple, who helps Evelyn in protecting Will’s new form. No word on who Mara will play, but her lil sis Rooney Mara almost landed Hall’s role, so this was definitely a missed opportunity to see the Mara sisters in the same movie. “Transcendence” will be produced by Pfister’s longtime collaborator Chirstopher Nolan and it already has a release date of April 25, 2014.

Mara has clearly been on Nolan’s radar for a while after he considered her for the Catwoman role in “The Dark Knight Rises” that eventually went to Anne Hathaway. Most recently seen on hit Netflix series “House of Cards” – now greenlit for season 2 – she last appeared on the big screen in Channing Tatum’s ensemble high school reunion drama “10 Years” and violent thriller “Deadfall” opposite Erica Bana and Olivia Wilde.

Female lead for “Transcendence” opposite Johnny Depp down to Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall

Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister is gearing up to make his directorial debut, and casting is firming up on sci-fi tale “Transcendence”, already starring Johnny Depp. Deadline reports the search for the female lead is narrowing and may be decided by this Friday.

The final three are Rooney Mara, Emily Blunt and Rebecca Hall, though Deadline warns Blunt could have scheduling conflicts with currently filming Tom Cruise actioner “All You Need is Kill.” Filming is set to begin on March 4th and the chosen actress will play a scientist named Evelyn, who is married to and uploads Depp’s character Will’s brain onto a supercomputer after his death. Casting is also underway for Max, a male friend of the couple, who helps Evelyn in protecting Will’s new form. Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas are executive producing for their longtime collaborator Pfister, while the screenplay came from newcomer Jack Paglen.

All three actresses seem way too young to play Depp’s wife, though Hall seems like the best fit to play a scientist to us. She is, however, already playing one in “Iron Man 3″ and could be in danger of being typecast if she plays both these characters back to back. Mara, too, has tread upon seemingly similar territory, recently wrapping up filming on Spike Jonze’s “Her”, which sees Joaquin Phoenix as a man in love with a computer. Blunt is also familiar with sci-fi, most recently having appeared in Rian Johnson’s exceptional time travel thriller “Looper.”

Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt take center stage in third trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises”

The villains take center stage in the third trailer for Christopher Nolan’s final Batman movie, “The Dark Knight Rises”, as Anne Hathaway as Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as police officer John Blake, who may have a deeper connection to the villainous icons than earlier thought, are featured prominently in the newest round of promos. The trio of newcomers to the franchise take the spotlight in the latest trailer as Gotham seems on the brink of utter collapse and Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne is kept largely in the shadows (and largely out of costume).

“The Dark Knight Rises” opens on July 20th. It will be Nolan’s last turn behind the director’s chair but Warner Bros is reported to be interested in continuing the franchise, with Nolan staying on in other creative capacities. Watch the newest trailer for the “Epic Conclusion” of the trilogy below.

Watch: First trailer for “The Dark Knight Rises” teases an epic conclusion

December 19, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos 1 Comment

Probably the most highly anticipated movie of next year by a certain large faction of internet inhabitants, “The Dark Knight Rises” has finally released its first trailer. Of course, most of the die-hards have probably already seen what is shown below after shelling out $14 for “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” this weekend, which boasted an exclusive six-minute prologue/teaser from Christopher Nolan’s final Batman film. For the rest of us though, this abbreviated footage is still very impressive, as all of Nolan’s Bat flicks have been. Anne Hathaway slinks and slithers around Christian Bale in a way that should shed, even further, her good-girl Disney image, and Tom Hardy is completely unrecognizable (and nearly unintelligible). Yes, that’s him as Bane underneath that muzzle. It also felt like a bit of an “Inception” redux with brief appearances from Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but hell, that football sequence is so cool that I’m willing to overlook, for now, the always annoying actor-recycling some directors are so fond of.

“The Dark Knight Rises” will open on July 20, 2012.

First look at Tom Hardy as Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises”

May 20, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Warner Bros kicked off the viral marketing campaign 14 months ahead of the release of “The Dark Knight Rises” with a complicated set of puzzles that, thankfully, the clever readers of SuperHero Hype took no time at all to decipher. After using an audio program to reveal the spectrum on a series of indiscernible chants on TheDarkKnightRises.com says “#thefirerises”, it was quickly discovered a Twitter account was set up to encourage followers to tweet “#thefirerises” in order to add their own image to http://www.thedarkknightrises.com/image.html, becoming one pixel that will eventually make up the first official image from the film.

Still with us? Don’t worry if you’re confused or unable to follow the sequence of events because all you really need to take away is this: this being the internet, the fans have scooped Warner Bros and managed to retrieve the full image ahead of schedule, revealing Tom Hardy in profile and in character as the villainous Bane.

“The Dark Knight Rises” has only just begun filming in India this week, with Christopher Nolan at the helm for the last time, directing a cast that includes Christian Bale and new additions Marion Cotillard, Juno Temple and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The full image of Hardy can be seen below.

Antje Traue cast as Superman villain in “Man of Steel”

April 28, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

Henry Cavill has added one more nemesis to his long list of evildoers to fight. Variety reports that relatively unknown German actress Antje Traue has been cast as the female villain in Zack Snyder’s reboot of the Superman franchise, “Man of Steel”. She has allegedly beat out the likes of Diane Kruger, Rosamund Pike and Alice Eve for the role that is most likely to be Faora, the sidekick to Kryptonian villain General Zod, to be portrayed by Michael Shannon in the new incarnation.

Cavill, Shannon and Traue are joined in the new star-studded Christopher Nolan-produced picture by Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Ma and Pa Kent. While plot details are predictably sparse, the film, from a screenplay by David S. Goyer and based on a story by Nolan and Goyer, is expected to be an origin tale of how Clark Kent becomes Superman, following in the footsteps of Nolan’s Batman trilogy.

Deadline weighed in on Traue’s hunger for a big studio role, having tested for the female lead of “The Rite”, which went to Alice Braga, and more recently the female lead in Brad Pitt-starrer “World War Z”, which went to “The Killing” star Mireille Enos. Traue was last seen on the big screen in 2009′s “Pandorum” and is currently filming “Nobels Testament” in Sweden.

“Man of Steel” gets underway this summer in Chicago for a projected December 2012 release.

Marion Coatillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt are Cast in ‘Dark Knight Rises’

April 19, 2011 | Posted by Tamara Manne in Casting Leave a comment

After months of speculation, the roles of Marion Cotillard and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight Rises have been confirmed. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this “conclusion of the Dark Knight legend,” will bring director Christopher Nolan, Cotillard and Gordon-Levit together again.

The Dark Knight Rises is becoming a near-reunion for Inception stars, as — among the many “Dark Knight” actors — Cotillard and Gordon-Levitt will also be joining Michael Caine and Tom Hardy. In a statement, Nolan said, “When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience.”

Cotillard will play Miranda Tate, a board member of Wayne Enterprises and Bruce Wayne sympathizer. Gordon-Levitt will play Gotham City beat cop John Blake.

The Dark Knight Rises stars Christian Bale as Batman and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle.

Production begins this summer, and the film is set to release on July 20, 2012.

“The Social Network” star Josh Pence lands pivotal role in “The Dark Knight Rises”

April 8, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

Josh Pence, often called the unsung hero of “The Social Network”, might finally have his moment in the sun. After body-doubling as the Winklevoss twins and then having his face digitally replaced with that of Armie Hammer’s, thus erasing 99% of acknowledgment for his work on the film, Pence has now landed a whopper of a follow-up, one that is likely to be the breakout moment that “Social Network” wasn’t. THR reports that Pence has landed the role of a young Ra’s Al Ghul in Christopher Nolan’s next (and final) installment of his Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises”.

Pence’s character will appear in flashback scenes. The present day Al Ghul was played by Liam Neeson in “Batman Begins” and though he seemingly died in the first film, the door appears to now be open for his return. Adding credence to that possibility is the strong rumor that Marion Cotillard will be playing Talia Al Ghul, love interest to Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne and the senior Al Ghul’s daughter. Pence joins Neeson, Cotillard and Bale in addition Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Tom Hardy as Bane, Juno Temple as a streetwise Gotham teen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a still unspecified role. Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman are also reprising their roles.

Pence followed up his thankless role in “The Social Network” with a slightly more noticeable one in upcoming action blockbuster “Battleship”, also with Neeson and Taylor Kitsch. “The Dark Knight Rises” will film this summer, with four to six weeks scheduled for Pittsburgh.
