May 20, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

liamhemsworth “The Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth is going from District 12 to a different type of futuristic world. Deadline reports Hemsworth has been set to star in “Aurora Rising”, in which he’ll play a surfer turned ombat pilot who’s recruited to test out the next generation of military aircrafts just as an international conflict escalates. Christian Gudegast wrote the script and it appears the film has no director just yet.

Hemsworth was recently in Cannes promoting sequel “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, which comes out this November, and he’s also got a second and third sequel, “Mockingjay” Parts 1 & 2 to film. Between stints as Jennifer Lawrence’s best friend/love interest in Panem, he starred in “The Expendables 2″ and wrapped filming on upcoming thrillers “Empire State” and “Paranoia.”

First Poster for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Featuring Jennifer Lawrence

catchingfirepostersm In a welcome respite from Floating Head syndrome, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen stands tall and from a far distance away in the first poster released for sequel “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, released this morning via the movie’s official Instagram.

Taglined with a quote from the book – “The sun persists in rising, so I make myself stand” – which the film’s social media handles have been teasing for days, the poster has a painted feel and gives nothing away about the plot, which picks up after the events of the first film, with Lawrence’s Katniss back at home after emerging victorious alongside Josh Hutcherson’s Peeta Mellark in the Hunger Games. The two don’t have long to rest though, as their actions in the games have sparked a revolution amongst the oppressed people of Panem and fire is quickly catching. Liam Hemsworth returns for more screentime as Gale, Katniss’ best friend, Woody Harrelson is back as Katinss and Peeta’s alcoholic mentor, Lenny Kravtiz’s Cinna, Elizabeth Banks‘ Effie and Willow Shields’ Prim are all back, as well as newcomers Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Claflin and Jena Malone.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be released on November 22nd and the first poster can be viewed below.

New “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Images Reveal First Look at Willow Shields with Jennifer Lawrence

April 12, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

catchingfiresm “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, one of the most hotly anticipated films of the year, has been running a social media marketing campaign wherein they reveal new images over at Hunger Games Explorer in exchange for tweets of designated movie-related hashtags, and we have our first look at Willow Shields reprising her role as the youngest Everdeen sister Prim in one of the recently uncovered images.

But fear not, there’s also new images of the main attraction of these movies, Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen, looking grim and battered as always. Nothing new yet of Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale or newcomers Sam Claflin and Jena Malone as Finnick and Johanna, respectively, but they’ll probably turn up soon – it’s just a matter of how fast teenage girls can tweet. It’s also been reported today by Showbiz 411 that some kind of star-studded presentation for the film may take place next month at the Cannes Film Festival. We will be there, and will hopefully get to see it, whatever it may turn out to be.

In the meantime, you can see the new photos below, and the Francis Lawrence-directed film itself will be released on November 22nd.

Jena Malone To Battle Ghosts In Victorian Tale “Angelica”

February 28, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

jenamalone “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” star Jena Malone will be trading in a futuristic battlefield for a creepy Victorian manor in her new film “Angelica”, according to Deadline.

In the 19th Century England-set film based on the novel by Arthur Phillips, Malone will play Constance, who marries Dr. Joseph Barton and gives birth to a baby girl named Angelica. After the difficult childbirth, doctors force the couple to remain celibate, which causes problems in their marriage and on top of that, somehow allows a ghostly presence to move into the household and wreak havoc on the already tenuous relationships of its occupants. Mitchell Lichtenstein will direct.

Malone recently wrapped up shooting the pivotal role of Johanna Mason in Francis Lawrence’s sequel “The Hunger Games” Catching Fire.” Last seen on the big screen opposite Emily Browning in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch”, she also recently appeared on hit TNT mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys” and is attached to play acclaimed novelist Carson McCullers in “Lonely Hunger.”

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson Featured on “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” Victory Tour Posters

catchingfireposter001 Filming hasn’t even completed yet, but the viral marketing for sequel “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” is a go. Today two versions of the first poster for the film, designed as Victory Tour posters which fit inside the plot of the story itself, have been released featuring Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta. HitFix released one, and the newly rebranded official Facebook the other.

The Victory Tour Katniss and Peeta embark on take place at the beginning of “Catching Fire”, following (spoiler alert?) their unprecedented victory in their first Hunger Games, which took place in the first film directed by Gary Ross. Francis Lawrence takes over directing duties for the sequel – and will direct the rest of the films in the series – which will see Kantiss and Peeta thrown back into another life or death competition, collecting new friends and foes along the way. Sam Claflin nabbed the coveted role of Finnick, while Jena Malone joins the cast as Johanna.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be released on November 22nd. The new posters can be viewed below, with probably more items to whet your appetite coming soon.

First images of Jennifer Lawrence and Sam Claflin as Katniss and Finnick in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

January 9, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

UPDATE: New images of Liam Hemsworth as Gale and Josh Hutcherson as Peeta have been added.

Oh yeah, “The Hunger Games” is still a thing. In just ten short months, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, which will see the return of Jennifer Lawrence’s teen heroine Katniss Everdeen, will be released, and today EW has our first look at Lawrence and newcomer Sam Calflin, who plays fan favorite Finnick.

The two, wearing futuristic wetsuits and wielding their signature weapons – Katniss with her bow and arrows, Finnick with his trident – cover the magazine’s new issue, which also unveils a rather intimate moment between the two as the movie’s first official still. As fans of the book now and as director Francis Lawrence is now translating to screen, Finnick is a bit of a flirt who teases and flusters the usually level-headed Katniss, who he meets when they are both chosen to compete in the Quarter Quell, an anniversary edition of the Hunger Games that pits previous victors against one another. We’re not sure yet if Claflin is pulling off that sexy side of his character, but it’s still early yet, with filming only having wrapped recently in Hawaii. No images in sight just yet of returning characters like Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Elizabeth Banks as Effie, or other newcomers like Jena Malone as Johanna Mason, Finnick’s cunning and fearless partner.

“The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will be released on November 21, 2013, and the first two images of Lawrence and Claflin can be viewed below.

Too good to be true? The brothers Hemsworth may “Triumph” in onscreen team-up for Steve McQueen biopic

November 13, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 2 Comments

You better not be teasing us now, The Wrap. Buried in a story about Chris Hemsworth becoming attached to Stephen Gaghan’s crime thriller “Candy Store,” the paper also reports Hemsworth is being eyed for a role in “Triumph”, a biopic of iconic American actor Steve McQueen, and that film has also offered a role to Liam Hemsworth, Chris’s younger “Hunger Games” star brother.

The film is set up at Sony Pictures and the script – following the story of McQueen and his stunt double Bud Elkins – is still being written by Brandon and Philip Murphy, so this sounds like it’s far from being finalized. But the good news is that the Hemsworths may be open to doing a movie together, and if not this one, then perhaps another one. Why haven’t we thought of this great idea before, and now that we have, yes please, can we have it soon? Ahem.

Meanwhile, Hemsworth’s involvement with “Candy Store” seems at least slightly more plausible, and if everything falls into place, he will be taking on the role of an elite operative who retires to Brooklyn, only to find the enemy he once fought setting up shop in his new neighborhood.

The older Hemsworth is currently reprising his role as the God of Thunder and Avenger on “Thor: The Dark World” and will next star in Steven Spielberg’s adaptation of “Robopocalypse.” The younger Hemsworth is reprising his role as Jennifer Lawrence’s best friend in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, and recently wrapped up corporate espionage thriller “Paranoia”, as well as heist actioner “Empire State.”

First look at Sam Claflin and Josh Hutcherson on the set of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

September 13, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

It’s among the most anticipated of sequels and today Celebuzz has unveiled the first photos from the set of “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, featuring two fan-favorite characters getting to work. Josh Hutcherson has demonstrably gone back to blonde to play Peeta Mellark, and we also finally have our first glimpse of what British actor Sam Claflin will bring to the role of Finnick Odair.

What can we glean from these photos? Well, not much, except that Claflin’s Finnick, like his ocean-loving book counterpart, may be spending much of his time shirtless. No sighting yet of Jennifer Lawrence, who unveiled her brunette Katniss locks in Toronto last week, or Liam Hemsworth as Gale (hair color: indeterminate). Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz and the rest are all returning, and will be joined by newbies including Jena Malone, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright.

Francis Lawrence took over directing duties on “Catching Fire” from Gary Ross, and it’s set for a November 23, 2013 release. See the first photos of Claflin and Hutcherson below and head over to Celebuzz for many more.

Sam Claflin confirmed for Finnick in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”

August 22, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

After two months of rumor and speculation, British actor Sam Claflin has finally been officially confirmed for the role of Finnick Odair in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.” Claflin joins returning stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth, as well as new addition Jena Malone in the second installment of the massively popular teen dystopian franchise.

Finnick was a hotly contested role, and everyone had an opinion (including us), but in the end it wasn’t up to the fans, but the filmmakers and particularly director Francis Lawrence. Claflin will now do his best to embody the charismatic, noble and broken Hunger Games victor from District 4 who becomes an invaluable ally to Lawrence’s Katniss. Will Claflin succeed? We certainly have our doubts, but are eagerly anticipating the film nonetheless. Filming begins imminently and the film is already set for a November 23, 2013 release. Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz and most of the gang from the original film will return, and other new additions include Philip Seymour Hoffman, Lynn Cohen and Meta Golding.

Claflin, while a newcomer, is already no stranger to the franchise game. He got his big break playing opposite Johnny Depp in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”, then romancing Kristen Stewart in “Snow White and the Huntsman.” Neither really put him on the map, so will it be third time’s a charm with “Catching Fire”? Judging by how madly these fan loves their stars, we are betting on yes.
