Set Photos Reveal Joel Courtney and Liana Liberato Filming “Dear Eleanor” with Isabelle Fuhrman

May 24, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

dear-eleanorsm We learned just earlier today that “The Hunger Games” star Isabelle Fuhrman is in the midst of filming her next film, and now we have news of who her co-stars are, as well as the first photos from the Boulder, Co. set. Just Jared has the first photos of Fuhrman as well as “Super 8″ star Joel Courtney and Liana Liberato of the upcoming “Stuck in Love” filming a piggyback scene for 1960s’ set road trip drama “Dear Eleanor.”

“Entourage” star Kevin Connolly is directing the coming of age tale about two best friends (Liberato and Fuhrman) who go on a road trip across the country in search of Eleanor Roosevelt. The film also stars Jessica Alba, Ione Skye and Josh Lucas, who plays real life Alcatraz escapee Frank Morris. No word on who, if anyone, will play Roosevelt, who would have been near her deathbed at age 78 based on the timeline of the film.

The first photos of Fuhrman, Courtney and Liberato are below, and Just Jared has a few more. This is an indie, so no distribution news just yet.

Gauntlet Thrown? Evan Peters to Play Quicksilver in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”

May 23, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

evan-peters Well, this just got interesting. It appears Fox may not be quite as happy as the internet is about the possibility of X-Men characters Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch appearing in Marvel Studios’ “The Avengers 2.” Today “X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Bryan Singer tweeted out another casting announcement that caught at least this writer off guard. “American Horror Story” star Evan Peters is joining the cast playing none other than Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver.

Now, this announcement could be taken one of two ways. Either Fox is none too pleased about Marvel taking characters who have been central to X-Men lore for decades and are staking ownership first, or Singer and “Avengers” director Joss Whedon reached some sort of compromise to allow Quicksilver and his twin sister the Scarlet Witch to appear in both film canons as played by the same actors, marking a major crossover development in the world of comic book movies. Of course, the likeliest scenario may just be that Peters and whichever actress is cast by Singer will play one version of Pietro and Wanda (with mutant origins as Magneto’s children in tact) and Whedon will cast his own version of the brother-sister duo (with no mention of mutant genetics and Magneto? Who’s that?). Either way, like I said, this just got very, very interesting. We’ll see how things develop from here. Whether Saoirse Ronan is cast as Singer’s Scarlet Witch may be our first clue to how this whole thing will shake out.

Evans, who’s wrapped up filming on indies “Adult World” with Emma Roberts and “Truck Stop” with Juno Temple, is most known for his TV work on Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story”, on which he’s appeared in all three standalone seasons. He’s also attached to indie thriller “The Preppie Connection” with Bella Heathcote, expected to film this summer.

Shiloh Fernandez and Rosamund Pike Mark Next Project “Return to Sender”

returntosender Rosamund Pike, Shiloh Fernandez and Nick Nolte will topline indie psychological thriller “Return to Sender”, according to THR. Fouad Mikati will direct from a script by Patricia Beauchamp and Joe Gossett.

Pike will play a small town nurse whose life is turned upside down after agreeing to a blind date with a man (Fernandez) who turns out to be not who he says he is, making her fall victim to “a life-altering event.” She then must “find the strength and courage to rebuild her life and return to her former self.” Nolte will play Pike’s father. Filming has already commenced in New Orleans.

Pike, who’s known for “Pride and Prejudice”, “An Education” and most recently “Jack Reacher” opposite Tom Cruise, recently wrapped Nick Hornby adaptation “A Long Way Down” as well as Edgar Wright’s Cornetto Trilogy conclusion “The World’s End.” Fernandez has appeared in “Red Riding Hood” with Amanda Seyfried” and can next be seen opposite Brit Marling in eco-terrorist thriller “The East” as well as drug cartel drama “Deep Powder” opposite Haley Bennett.

Saoirse Ronan Interested in Playing the Scarlet Witch in “The Avengers 2″

May 23, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

saoirse-ronan By now we’ve all heard the rumblings that Joss Whedon sees Irish actress Saoirse Ronan as a “prototype” for casting Marvel superhero the Scarlet Witch, who is set to join the team in “The Avengers 2″, but does Ronan have any interest in taking the role herself? The Mary Sue recently caught up with the actress and the answer was a resounding “yes.”

Ronan recently heard about the rumors herself and answered enthusiastically when asked if she would like to join the Marvel family: “I have heard about it and yes, I would. Yeah, of course I would. I love Joss and I love those films, and I love his handle on them and how he portrayed these kinds of superheroes. I think it’s very different from what anyone else has done. So yeah, I’d love to be in it.”

Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff, is one of the most prominent figures in the Marvel universe, and she and twin brother Pietro aka Quicksilver have taken both heroic and villainous turns within the comic canon throughout the decades. They are also the children of Magneto, who, of course, falls under X-Men canon and is being portrayed by Michael Fassbender in the currently filming Fox film “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”

It’s been speculated that Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver cannot legally be referred to as Magneto’s children or even as mutants, but we’ll let Marvel’s and Fox’s lawyers hammer that one out. The important thing is Whedon is (allegedly) interested, Ronan is definitely interested, how do we make this happen? Ronan should probably make sure her ever crowded schedule is clear for February 2014.

amanda-seyfried Confirming earlier reports, Amanda Seyfried is now in final negotiations to join Ben Stiller, Naomi Watts and Adam Driver in Noah Baumbach’s long-gestating next film, “While We’re Young”, according to The Wrap.

The film is about two couples, an older, uptight married one comprised of a documentary filmmaker (Stiller) and his wife (Watts) who find their lives turned upside down when they befriend a free-spirited younger couple, to be played by Driver and Seyfried. Filming will take place in New York this fall should everything come together, though it should be noted this project has been on and off for years, with other actors like Jesse Eisenberg and James Franco in Driver’s role, and frequent Baumbach collaborator Greta Gerwig in Seyfried’s.

Last seen as Cosette in Tom Hooper’s Oscar-winning adaptation of musical “Les Miserables”, Seyfried also earned acclaim at Sundance this year, where her titular “Lovelace” premiered to mostly rave reviews. She’s currently filming Seth MacFarlane’s Western comedy “A Million Ways to Die in the West” opposite Charlize Theron and has recently signed on to a string of films, including sci-fi adaptation “Z for Zachariah” with Chris Pine and true life family drama “Three Little Words” opposite Reese Witherspoon.

zac-efron Zac Efron is attached to star in college-set crime thriller “Narc”, which is based on a true story, reports Deadline. Seemingly in its early stages, the film is now searching for a screenwriter to script the tale of a popular college fraternity President and star lacrosse player who is busted for cocaine possession and strikes a deal with the cops to go undercover as an informant, leading a double life of turning in big-time criminals while maintaining his Big Man on Campus status.

Efron is currently playing a different kind of frat house President in Nicholas Stoller’s comedy “Townies” opposite Seth Rogen and Dave Franco. This fall he’ll head to Germany to film car chase thriller “Autobahn” opposite Amber Heard and he has rom com “Are We Offcially Dating?” and JFK assassination drama “Parkland” awaiting release.

Dylan O’Brien Eyed for Lead in Found Footage Thriller “Glimmer”

dylan-obrien “Teen Wolf” star Dylan O’Brien continues to be in demand for big screen roles. Deadline reports found footage thriller “Glimmer” is hoping to snag O’Brien for the lead role, and is even moving the whole production back to January 2014 in order to accommodate him. Barring any new scheduling conflicts with the pushed back start date, O’Brien would join “Shameless” star Jeremy Allen White, who was the first to be cast in the film hoping to be the next “Chronicle.”

Ringan Ledwidge is directing the Carter Blanchard script which landed in the Top 10 of the 2012 Black List. The time-travel thriller centers around a group of teens who take a camping trip to investigate a series of missing persons, only to find a portal that can take them back in time instead. They travel to and are ultimately trapped in the 1970s, where one of them changes something, with – naturally – catastrophic results.

O’Brien plays goofy sidekick Stiles on MTV’s “Teen Wolf” series, now entering its 3rd season, and impressed us with a charming, earnest turn opposite Britt Robertson in last year’s Sundance coming of age drama “The First Time.” He will next be seen opposite Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughn and Max Minghella in summer comedy “The Internship” and is currently filming the lead role in Wes Ball’s adaptation of James Dashner’s teen dystopian series “The Maze Runner.”

Christian Gudegast wrote the script and it appears the film has no director just yet.

Hemsworth was recently in Cannes promoting sequel “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”, which comes out this November, and he’s also got a second and third sequel, “Mockingjay” Parts 1 & 2 to film. Between stints as Jennifer Lawrence’s best friend/love interest in Panem, he starred in “The Expendables 2″ and wrapped filming on upcoming thrillers “Empire State” and “Paranoia.”

Broadway Vet Christian Borle Joins Michael Mann’s Cyber Thriller Opposite Chris Hemsworth

May 20, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

christian-borle The cancellation of NBC musical series “Smash” may have been a blessing in disguise for Broadway vet Christian Borle, as he has been freed up to take a role in Michael Mann’s untitled cyber thriller opposite Chris Hemsworth, reports Deadline. Viola Davis, Holt McCallany and Chinese stars Wei Tang and Leehom Wang are also on board the international cast.

There are no plot details available, but the film is said to be in the vein of Mann’s previous thrillers “Heat” and “Thief” but set in the world of cyber theft and cyber attacks, and Tang and Wang will play a brother-sister duo, with Tang also acting as love interest to Hemsworth’s character. Mann wrote the script with Morgan Foehl and along with the international cast, locations for the shoot will include Los Angeles, Hong Kong and others. Filming begins in June.

Borle is one of Broadway’s most recognizable stars, having starred in musicals such as “Spamelot” and “Legally Blonde”, and won a Tony last year for his role in Peter Pan prequel play “Peter and the Starcatcher.” He, like many fellow stage actors, had began in recent years to attempt a transition to screen acting, landing a series regular role as the writing partner of Debra Messing on NBC’s “Smash.” It was cancelled recently and will see its series finale this Sunday night.
