Joseph Gordon-Levitt committs to “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”, won’t lead “Guardians of the Galaxy”

January 7, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

Glad this is finally settled. No, hotly in demand actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not star in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy”, or the “Godzilla” reboot. Instead, according to Deadline, Gordon-Levitt has committed to a starring role in sequel “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For”, which is already filming.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are directing the sequel to 2005′s “Sin City”, based on Miller’s graphic novel, and a large chunk of the original cast is returning, including Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis, Jaimie King, Jessica Alba and Rosario Dawson, while newcomers don’t stop with Gordon-Levitt. Josh Brolin is among the names being tossed around as potential cast additions, while the film’s female lead has still yet to be cast as well, even though filming has been on-and-off-going since November. Gordon-Levitt will play a newly created character named Johnny, a “smooth gambler” role that had originally been offered to Johnny Depp.

Gordon-Levitt is arguably the most sought-after young actor in Hollywood right now, especially after a breakout year in 2012 that saw him play an integral transition character in Christopher Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises” (is “Justice League” next?), as the lead of Rian Johnson’s impressive sci-fi thriller “Looper” and as son Robert to Daniel Day Lewis’ “Lincoln.” Next, his directorial debut “Don Jon’s Addiction”, in which he also co-stars opposite Scarlett Johansson, which the now multi-hyphenate will premiere at Sundance in a couple of weeks.

Watch: Jai Courtney and Bruce Willis play 007 of New Jersey in first trailer for “A Good Day to Die Hard”

October 4, 2012 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Videos Leave a comment

Classical music, an elevator, foreign bad guys with blond hair, and lots and lots of explosions? Yep, it must be a new “Die Hard” film.

The first trailer for “A Good Day to Die Hard” was released earlier today and it features all the things we love about the “Die Hard” franchise – guns, explosions, foreign bad guys with big plans … and John McClane being a total badass.

Starring Bruce Willis, in his fifth outing as ex-cop McClane, Die Hard 5 (as we know we’ll all be calling it!) brings back Mary Elizabeth Winstead as McClane’s daughter, and the trailer gives us our first glimpse of Jai Courtney as John McClane Jr. (aka Jack).

Courtney won the role after beating out stiff competition, and his character of course allows for the long-running franchise to continue without Willis should the film be a hit. The plot has been kept firmly underwraps but it looks like McClane and son are heading to Russia this time around.

Die Hard or Live Free” was a disappointing addition to the franchise but today’s trailer suggests director John Moore may have managed to avoid turning this film into another generic Willis action flick and remind us why we all loved Die Hard in the first place.

Check out the trailer below and let us know your thoughts in the comments. “A Good Die To Die Hard” is due out February 14th 2013.

First Look: Photos from the set of “A Good Day to Die Hard” reveal Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s return

August 8, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

There was a lot of hoopla surrounding the casting of the new co-lead of “A Good Day to Die Hard”, Bruce Willis’ fifth time donning his most famous character John McClane. In the end, little known Aussie actor Jai Courtney landed the role of John McClane, Jr. aka Jack, who will be poised to take over the franchise from the aging action star should he be a hit with audiences. Through it all though, we wondered about that other McClane progeny.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead played Lucy McClane in “Live Free or Die Hard”, the fourth installment of the action series, and had appeared to be sitting this one out, giving the spotlight to her brother, but new photos from the Budapest set of the film indicates she may appear in at least one scene.

Moviehole (via Bleeding Cool) got the photos of Winstead as Lucy apparently dropping off Dad at the airport. The bulk of the action takes place in Moscow, with McClanes Sr. and Jr. teaming up to save the world, so it seems safe to say Winstead’s role may be limited to waving goodbye from New York as the men in the family take care of action hero business. See the photos below, and head over to the original sources for more.

REVIEW: Cannes opener “Moonrise Kingdom” showcases Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman as bright new stars

May 16, 2012 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Reviews 2 Comments

“The adults are the disappointing [characters] in this one,” claimed Tilda Swinton during this morning’s press conference for “Moonrise Kingdom”, which opened Cannes film festival today. And I’d have to agree, which shows just how strong this film is; Swinton, Bruce Willis, Ed Norton, Frances McDormand, Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray have all put in superb performances – but stealing the film are two newcomers we won’t forget, Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman.

Watch: Liam Hemsworth takes lessons from Sylvester Stallone in new trailer for “The Expendables 2″

May 3, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos Leave a comment

On a screen filled with the likes of Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme and every other action star you can think of, you’ll forgive Liam Hemsworth for doing little more than sit and look around wondrously at the ass-kicking taking place around him. In the full length trailer for “The Expendables 2″, Hemsworth is quite literally the new kid on the block, taking orders from Sylvester Stallone and asking “how do you do that?”

Hemsworth plays sniper Bill “The Kid” Timmons in the Simon West directed actioner, a follow-up to the 2010 film which grossed $275 million worldwide and starred Stallone as Barney Ross, the leader of a group of highly skilled mercenaries sent on a mysterious mission to take out a corrupt military leader on a remote Latin American island.

“The Expendables 2″ will be released on August 17, 2012 and the new trailer can be viewed below.

Liam Hemsworth gets his own “Expendables 2″ poster

April 26, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 3 Comments

Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Willis… and Hemsworth? Behold the power of “The Hunger Games”! Despite being the very green newcomer to “The Expendables 2″, the sequel that features all the legendary action heroes you can think of, Lionsgate has given their new rising star Liam Hemsworth his very own poster for the expected summer blockbuster release.

Hemsworth, as Bill “The Kid” Timmons, looks like a cross between Captain America and G.I. Joe on his poster, all uniformed up and toting pretty heavy machinery. The new team is being dubbed the “#DirtyDozen”, with various media outlets debuting solo character posters for each action star. Moviefone brought us Hemsworth’s, and you can check out their site for links to all the others, which include the aforementioned Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis, in addition to Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, Jason Sthatham, Jet Li and more. They are still being posted one by one, but for now, you can check out Hemsworth’s below.

“The Expendables 2″ opens on August 17th.

Whimsical first poster for Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom” is right out of a hipster Disney movie

March 8, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

Is it Bambi or is it a new Wes Anderson movie? Newcomers Kara Howard and Jared Gilman look right at home in a lush forest (or painting of a lush forest) that dwarfs them on the first poster for Anderson’s latest offering, “Moonrise Kingdom.” It’s a colorful, whimsical poster with subtle elements of magical realism for what is surely to be a colorful and whimsical, trademark Anderson film (the color scheme already matches perfectly). Howard and Gilman play two youngsters who fall in love and run away together, prompting the entire town – whose inhabitants include Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton and Edward Norton – to search high and low for them. Why they didn’t look in the magical forest first is beyond me.

“Moonrise Kingdom”, one of our most highly anticipated movies of the year, will be released on May 25th and is rumored to be eyeing a Cannes Film Festival premiere, which takes place just a few days earlier. See the full poster below.

Aussie rising star Jai Courtney lands coveted “Die Hard 5″ role; first look at screen test

February 22, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

Looks like Jai Courtney is a name we should all be watching out for. After a roller coaster casting process that has seen the likes of Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, James Badge Dale, Milo Ventigmilia, Paul Dano and more young actors vying for the coveted role of John McClane, Jr. opposite Bruce Willis in “A Good Day to Die Hard”, it is the relative unknown Australian who didn’t show up on any previous shortlists that will now join the franchise. Judging from the first image from his screen test with Willis, he’s pretty convincing.

Deadline reports the process likely came down to a final two between Courtney and Hemsworth with Courtney ultimately winning out and preparing to head to Moscow to star as Willis’ estranged son, Jack. McClane and Jack don’t get along but must work together in order to keep each other alive and the world at peace. Previous reports indicated if the film is successful, whoever was cast as Jack could be groomed to take over the franchise from an aging Willis. For now, John Moore will direct the father-son actioner for a February 14, 2013 release.

Having just landed his American feature film debut, legal thriller “One Shot” opposite Tom Cruise, in September, Courtney’s star is exponentially rising just a few months later. He’s perhaps thus far best known for Starz series “Spartacus: Blood and Sand”, but that’s all about to change with “One Shot”, “Die Hard” and a starring role opposite Aaron Eckhart in “I, Frankenstein” on the horizon.

See Courtney and Willis in a promotional shot from their screen test together below.

Watch: Newcomers Jared Gilman, Kara Hayward lead first trailer for Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom”

January 12, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos 1 Comment

It’s been five long years since Wes Anderson’s last live action feature film (and three since the fantastic “Fantastic Mr. Fox”, starring puppets) so it’s a welcome relief to lay eyes on the first trailer for “Moonrise Kingdom”, the predictably whimsical, quirky follow-up to 2007′s “The Darjeeling Limited.” Set against muted yellow tones with hints of magical realism in striking, dreamy imagery that are can only have come out of Anderson, a couple of newcomers – Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward – lead the story about two youngsters who fall in love, run away and set off an entire town’s search. Anderson’s usual suspects are present, of course, with Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray on board, but he has also assembled an impressive cast of Anderson neophytes, and I can’t wait to see the likes of Bruce Willis, Tilda Swinton and Edward Norton navigate the director’s dreamscape.

“Moonrise Kingdom” will be released on May 25.

Watch: Liam Hemsworth and a bunch of old guys with guns in first “Expendables 2″ trailer

December 14, 2011 | Posted by Linda Ge in Videos Leave a comment

Liam Hemsworth only pokes his head out for a brief second in the first teaser trailer for Lionsgate’s testosterone-field sequel “The Expendables 2″, but it’s pretty impressive he gets his named and likeness listed at all alongside the likes of Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Chuck Norris, Jason Statham and pretty much every other action star you can think – they’re probably all in this.

The Simon West directed actioner, a follow-up to the 2010 film which grossed $275 million worldwide, will be released on August 17, 2012.
