Watch: Mia Wasikowska and Tom Hiddleston Rock Out with Bad Hair in First Clips from “Only Lovers Left Alive”

No stoic, brooding vampires here. Jim Jarmusch’s “Only Lovers Left Alive”, which is premiering at Cannes next week, features Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston as centuries-long on and off lovers who are reunited, and now we have the first two clips from the film.

Mia Wasikowska plays Swinton’s wild child little sister (presumably also a vampire) and Anton Yelchin apparently her beau if we go by the first two musically-themed clips. Are they a vampire rock band?! Hair metal seems more appropriate given all the wild locks the quartet are sporting.

“Only Lovers Left Alive” premieres in the latter half of the Cannes Film Festival, so we will likely miss it, but this remains one of our most anticipated of the year. Hopefully it’ll find distribution soon. In the meantime, watch the first two clips from the film below.

Berenice Marlohe Replacing Diane Kruger to Join Anton Yelchin in “5 to 7″; Olivia Thirlby Also In

May 1, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting Leave a comment

5-7 Diane Kruger is out, “Skyfall” Bond Girl Berenice Marlohe is in for indie romantic comedy “5 to 7″, according to Deadline. Frank Langella, Glenn Close, Olivia Thirlby and Lambert Wilson are also joining the cast, which is led by Anton Yelchin.

Yelchin will play a young aspiring writer in the Victor Levin scripted and directed film. He romances an older woman (Marlohe), the beautiful wife of a French diplomat, and “cultures, world views, personal ethics and dietary preferences clash as love deepens.” Filming had been slated for February, but will now, with cast finally in place, begin next month in New York.

Marlohe had worked steadily in France before landing a breakthrough role as Severeine in the latest Bond flick “Skyfall” opposite Daniel Craig. Like her fellow former Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko, she quickly found herself cast in a Terrence Malick film, the Texas-set musically themed one with Michael Fassbender, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, though it’s too soon to tell if she will survive the editing room. Thirlby broke out alongside Ellen Page in “Juno” and was last seen remake “Dredd 3D.”

“Fruitvale” Star Michael B. Jordan Joins Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots in Josh Boone’s “Pretenders”

Future “The Fault in Our Stars” director Josh Boone has taken to Twitter once again to announce a new cast member for the film that he will shoot after that one. “Pretenders” already stars Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots, and now hot rising star Michael B. Jordan has joined them, Boone announced today.

There are no plot details available for “Pretenders”, but it will be Boone’s third feature after TIFF-premiered “Writers” (or “Stuck in Love”) starring Logan Lerman and Lily Collins, which comes out in June. Boone moves on to direct Shailene Woodley in the adaptation of John Green’s massively popular young adult novel “The Fault in Our Stars” next, and then “Pretenders” will follow.

Jordan, a veteran of two of TV’s most critically acclaimed dramas “The Wire” and “Friday Night Lights”, was seen in surprise breakout sci-fi hit “Chronicle” along with Alex Russell and Dane DeHaan and most recently as the star of “Fruitvale”, which won both the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. He most recently wrapped up shooting ensemble rom com “Are We Officially Dating?”, also starring Poots along with Zac Efron and Miles Teller.

rudderless Selena Gomez, Anton Yelchin, Laurence Fishburne and Billy Crudup will star in William H. Macy‘s directorial debut, “Rudderless”, according to Deadline. The musical drama about a grieving father who forms a band after finding songs written by his deceased son will begin filming this month in Oklahoma. Macy and wife Felicity Huffman will also star.

Former Disney Channel “Wizards of Waverly Place” star Gomez is currently growing up before audience’s eyes in Harmony Korine’s “Spring Breakers” and has also wrapped shooting on another outrageous R-rated comedy, “Feed the Dog.” Yelchin will soon be seen reprising his role as Chekov in JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek Into Darkness” as well as in the titular role in “Odd Thomas”, the adaptation of the Dean Koontz hit novels. He next reunites with “Fright Night” co-star Imogen Poots in Josh Boone’s “Pretenders.”

Who Should Play Augustus Waters in “The Fault In Our Stars” Opposite Shailene Woodley?

It’s the question on everyone’s minds now that we have our Hazel Grace in “The Descendants” star Shailene Woodley: Who will play her sparring partner, love interest and fellow cancer survivor Augustus Waters in “The Fault in Our Stars”?

Josh Boone is directing the adaptation of the best-selling John Green YA novel, and the casting for Augustus will likely be even more scrutinized than Woodley as Hazel. Gus, described as long and lean with dark hair and blue eyes who’s witty and spouts off romantic soliloquies in his wooing of Hazel, is the ideal fictional boyfriend for many a teenage reader and no matter who is cast, he will undoubtedly meet with a fair share of resistance. Sure, there is no perfect Gus for everyone, but we did our best to come up with just a few suggestions of guys who can be trusted to bring this beloved character to the big screen and not screw it up for his legion of fans.

It should be noted that Boone has been pretty vocal that an actor who is 25 is “far too old” for the role, which immediately takes a few of our guys out of the running (and which frankly makes us think someone has already been chosen, but that’s another story). Clearly, we disagree with the director on this point, and this is just our wishful thinking, just let us have this. Okay? Okay.

“Fright Night” co-stars Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots to reunite for Josh Boone’s “Pretenders”

February 17, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 4 Comments

imogen-anton Writer/director Josh Boone has taken to Twitter to announce his next project, entitled “Pretenders”, which will shoot this spring and will mark the onscreen reunion of “Fright Night” co-stars Anton Yelchin and Imogen Poots.

No plot details are available, but the film will be Boone’s second feature after “Writers”, the Lily Collins-Logan Lerman family drama which recently premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. Boone also has an intriguing future ahead as it appears he has landed a much higher profile directing gig, helming the adaptation of John Green’s bestselling YA novel “The Fault in Our Stars”, which may already have Shailene Woodley attached to star. A spring shoot for “Pretenders” will leave him plenty of time to wrap up before moving on to “Fault”, which is slated for late summer, after Woodley wraps up “Divergent.”

Poots will have a busy spring as she is also set to star opposite Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper in video game adaptation “Need for Speed”, already set for a February 7, 2014 release. Poots, last seen on the big screen in the remake of “Fright Night” opposite Yelchin, recently wrapped up roles in Terrence Malick’s “Knight of Cups”, Jimi Hendrix biopic “All is By My Side” and Nick Hornby novel adaptation “A Long Way Down.” Yelchin has also laid low since “Fright Night”, but recently wrapped up shooting on Jim Jarmusch’s vampire love saga “Only Lovers Left Alive” opposite Tilda Swinton, Mia Wasikowska and To Hiddleston. This year he’ll be seen as the titular “Odd Thomas” in the adaptation of the Dean Koontz novel series.

First image of Tom Hiddleston with Tilda Swinton in Jim Jarmusch’s vampire saga “Only Lovers Left Alive”

Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton don’t look like any vampires we’ve ever seen before in the first image from Jim Jarmusch’s undead love story “Only Lovers Left Alive.” The Playlist unveiled the first picture from the film which also stars Mia Wasikowska and Anton Yelchin.

Looking more like futuristic underground rock stars than the cloaked, formal vampires we are used to getting from popular culture, Hiddleston, as vampire Adam, is seen embracing his centuries-long lover Eve, played by Swinton. Their relationship is tested with the arrival of her wild younger sister Ava, played by Wasikowska. No pictures of her just yet, but it sounds like a different sort of role for the normally stoic and reserved actress.

The Playlist speculates the film will make its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in just a few short months, which sounds about right, and distribution and release dates should soon follow. For now you can see the full image of Hiddleston and Swinton below.

Anton Yelchin replaces Joel Edgerton in US-Mexico gang war drama “Broken Horses”

November 23, 2012 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Casting 1 Comment

From space to a transatlantic love affair, Anton Yelchin is now heading for a gang war, joining Vidhu Vinod Chopra‘s first English-language pic “Broken Horses” – once slated to star Aussie actor Joel Edgerton.

Variety reports that Yelchin will be joined by Thomas Jane, Chris Marquette, Sean Patrick Flanery, Vincent D’Onofario and Maria Valverde. Indian director Chopra co-scripted the film, which is “set in the shadows of the U.S.-Mexico border gang wars”, with Abhijat Joshi.

Back in 2009 Mickey Rourke had signed on to the film with Edgerton later being confirmed as well. Production stalled for various reasons but this 2012 reincarnation is shooting now, in and around Los Angeles and the Death Valley areas.

“Broken Hores” will be a new genre for Yelchin, who broke out in last year’s indie romcom “Like Crazy“, which topped my top 10 films of 2011, and can next be seen in “Star Trek To Darkness“. The American actor has mainly stuck with smaller indie pics, attaching himself to “The Winter Queen” and “Pete and Goat” with Amanda Seyfried. He has also signed on to star opposite Mia Wasikowska in “Only Lovers Left Alive” and joined indie romcom “5-7″ with Diane Kruger.
