As casting for the sequel to “The Hunger Games”, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” gets underway, the young actors who didn’t make it to the end of the first Games are beginning to make their own odds in Hollywood.
Dayo Okeniyi is the latest tribute to find life after the arena, with THR reporting that the Nigerian actor will be joining the cast of two Hollywood flicks – indie coming-of-age drama “The Spectacular Now” and the gambling drama “Runner Runner” starring Justin Timberlake.
In “The Spectacular Now”, Miles Teller stars as party-hard high school senior Sutter Keely, who has no ambitions beyond high school except to have as much fun as possible. When he wakes up on a random front lawn and meets shy, introverted Aimee – to be played by Shailene Woodley – she begins to turn his world upside down as he does hers. Based on the award winning novel by Tim Tharp, the film will be directed by James Ponsoldt and also stars Brie Larson.
In the Brad Furman-helmed “Runner Runner“, Okeniyi will be joining Timberlake, Ben Affleck, Oliver Cooper, Anthony Mackie and Gemma Arterton as a Princeton PhD student. The film follows two friends (Timberlake and Cooper) who get drawn in to the shadier side of gambling after being hired by Affleck’s billionaire online gambling business owner. Trouble soon comes in the form of Mackie’s FBI agent, who has been tracking Affleck for years. Arterton plays Timberlake’s love interest and filming is already underway in Puerto Rico.

More “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” news? Bring. It. On. Especially when it’s casting news as awesome as one of our favorite rising stars, Anthony Mackie, in talks to join the cast as Marvel superhero Falcon. THR reports Mackie is in negotiations for the role of Sam Wilson opposite returning Cap Chris Evans (and most likely Sebastian Stan as well).
The title of the film definitely seems to indicate Stan’s deceased Bucky Barnes will be revived and brought back to battle Evans’ Steve Rogers in modern times, following his fate in the comics. Mackie’s character Wilson is credited as being the first African-American superhero in mainstream comics, who is endowed with the ability to fly and communicate with birds by Cap’s nemesis, Red Skull. Rogers befriends Wilson and successfully turns him against the villain who “created” him, and the two go on to have many crime-fighting adventures together. Of course, this is the Marvel movie universe, so a whole new history could be created for this version of the Falcon. Anthony and Joseph Russo will direct “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”, with a release already set for April 4, 2014.
After breaking out in Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Picture Oscar winner “The Hurt Locker” opposite Jeremy Renner, Mackie has been increasingly in demand, appearing in four movies in 2011 and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” already out this year, with “Gangster Squad” set for release in September. He recently wrapped up Michael Bay’s dark indie comedy “Pain and Gain” opposite Mark Wahlberg and is currently filming gambling thriller “Runner Runner” with Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck.

“Runner Runner” is shaping up to be one heck of a film. Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck jumped on board back in April, before being quickly joined by “Project X” breakout star Oliver Cooper, Anthony Mackie and Gemma Arterton. Now THR reports that Ben Schwartz has joined the cast.
Schwartz has been working for years but it’s only in the last few years that he has began to make a name for himself, recently as the scene-stealer Jean-Ralphio in NBC’s hit “Parks and Recreation”. He is currently filming “Better Living Through Chemistry” with Olivia Wilde.
“Runner Runner”, directed by “The Lincoln Lawyer”‘s Brad Furman is set to begin filming this summer in Pureto Rico, and follows two friends (Timberlake and Cooper) who get drawn in to the shadier side of gambling after being hired by Affleck’s billionaire online gambling business owner. Trouble soon comes in the form of Mackie’s FBI agent, who has been tracking Affleck for years. Arterton plays Timberlake’s love interest.

British actress Gemma Arterton will romance Justin Timberlake in online gambling thriller “Runner Runner”, according to Variety. Ben Affleck, Anthony Mackie and “Project X” star Oliver Cooper also star in the Brad Furman directed film.
Timberlake and Cooper play a couple of Ivy League college students who get drawn into the world of online gambling and find themselves in over their heads when they’re hired to work for Affleck’s shady billionaire online gambling business owner. Filming begins late June in Puerto Rico, with Mackie in the role of an FBI agent who’s been trying to take down Affleck for years, and Arterton as Timberlake’s love interest.
Arterton was last seen on the big screen in the charming and underrated British comedy “Tamara Drewe” and recently wrapped up “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” opposite Jeremy Renner and “Song for Marion.” She’ll next be seen opposite Saoirse Ronan in Neil Jordan’s vampire epic “Byzantium” and is attached to play one half of comedic duo “The Wright Girls.”

Anthony Mackie has joined the cast of online gambling thriller “Runner Runner”, according to Deadline.
Justin Timberlake, Ben Affleck and “Project X” breakout star Oliver Cooper have already been cast in the Brad Furman film about a couple of Ivy League college students (Timberlake and Cooper) who get drawn into the world of online gambling and find themselves in over their heads when they’re hired to work for Affleck’s shady billionaire online gambling business owner. Filming begins next month in Puerto Rico, with Mackie in the role of an FBI agent who’s been trying to take down Affleck for years.
After breaking out in Kathryn Bigelow’s Best Picture Oscar winner “The Hurt Locker” opposite Jeremy Renner, Mackie has been increasingly in demand, appearing in four movies in 2011 and set to have an even bigger 2012, with “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” set for release next month and Ruben Fleischer’s “Gangster Squad” recently bumped up to a September 7th release. He’s currently filming bodybuilder heist actioner “Pain and Gain” opposite Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson.

“Zombieland” and “30 Minutes or Less” director Ruben Fleischer’s first foray into serious drama appears to be a success judging by the first trailer for 1940s mob actioner “Gangster Squad”, which you can now view below. Sean Penn stars in the true life tale as notorious mobster Mickey Cohen, a highly charismatic figure with a sociopathic dark side. Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling and Anothny Mackie, among others, play cops who come in to try to take Cohen down, but according to the trailer, may find themselves treading back and forth across the thin blue line. Fleischer’s “Zombieland” leading lady Emma Stone looks right at home in the period setting, playing a “sharp tongued siren” involved with both Penn and Gosling.
Warner Bros recently pulled “Gangster Squad” from its original October 12, 2012 release date and has not set a new release date yet, but it’s widely believed it will be in front of moviegoers before the year is up. Meanwhile, you can watch the first trailer below.

One of our favorite rising stars – and one of our Faces to Watch in 2012 – Anthony Mackie continues to build an impressive and varied upcoming slate, with Variety reporting the “Hurt Locker” star has signed on to star opposite Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in bodybuilding heist thriller “Pain and Gain.”
Michael Bay directs the low budget crime thriller based on a true story about a group of bodybuilders in Florida who “engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder.” Mackie will play Adrian Doorbal, a nice guy who’s fed up with bodybuilding getting him nowhere in life and gets roped into the schemes of friend and fellow athlete Daniel Lugo, played by Wahlberg. Rounding out the real life portrayals are Ed Harris as Ed Du Bois, the detective on the case and comedian Rob Corddry as John Mese, the owner of the gym where the guys work out. Production is slated for a spring start.
Mackie, along with Jeremy Renner and Brian Geraghty, led Kathryn Bigelow’s indie Iraq war thriller “The Hurt Locker” all the way to a Best Picture Oscar win, and has been a steadily rising star ever since. After appearing in four movies in 2011 – rom com “What’s Your Number?”, Toronto Film Fest entry “Ten Year”, robot boxing actioner “Real Steel” and sci-fi romance “The Adjustment Bureau”, Mackie is looking to have an even bigger 2012. He’s already appeared opposite Sam Worthington in “Man on a Ledge” and has completed filming on “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and “Gangster Squad.”

Just yesterday we saw the American teaser trailer for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” and like all good first trailers, it teased and tantalized without giving away too many secrets of Benjamin Walker’s axe-wielding, almost superhuman action hero of a 16th President. For international audiences though, Fox is going full out exposition, chocking it full of explanatory dialogue and closer looks at the bloodsucking monsters Walker’s Honest Abe will be fighting. One good thing about the new trailer is that we are given our first look at two key characters left out of the initial teaser: Mary Elizabeth Winstead as love interest Mary Todd (eventually Lincoln) and Dominic Cooper as Henry Sturgess, the vampire who seeks Abe’s help in defeating his own species.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”, produced by Tim Burton and directed by Timur Bekmambetov, will be released on June 22nd. See the new international trailer below.

One of our favorite risings stars, Benjamin Walker had some bad news last week as it was announced that Alex Proyas’ ambitious 3D action epic “Paradise Lost” – in which Walker had been attached as one of the two main leads – had been halted for good. The good news for Walker is that epic action looks to be in his future still, as the first trailer for “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” looks as fantastic as its previous promo materials and makes us even more excited for its summer release. Tim Burton produced and Timur Bekmambetov directed the sprawling, CGI filled revisionist biopic on the 16th President of the United States, and Walker in the title role is joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Anthony Mackie, Dominic Cooper and a slew of other up and comers.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” will be released on June 22nd. Have we mentioned how excited we are for this movie?? Get on the bandwagon and watch the new trailer below.

2011 saw some great new talent rise to stardom, but now let’s turn our attention to who may be following in their footsteps.
Again, we’ve chosen a group of fresh talent who we believe will be appearing in some interesting and high profile movies this year, which may or may not propel them to another level in their career. Some may be familiar to you already, some may be completely new. You may cheer at some inclusions, rage at who we left off (it was hard for us too, trust us!), but for better or worse, here are twenty-four actors and actresses that we will be keeping our eyes on this year.
