Hollywood’s favorite rising actress Jessica Chastain to star as Princess Diana

November 7, 2011 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Casting 2 Comments

Current awards darling Jessica Chastain is set to play the late Princess Diana, reports Thompson on Hollywood. The news has come from this year’s American Film Market, with the project being tentatively titled “Caught in Flight”, and with German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (“Downfall”) on board.

Based on a “real-life affair that the princess long kept under wraps”, the film revolves around a secret affair between the late princess and a heart surgeon, Dr. Hasnat Kahn, who was said to have been the love of her life. Described as a “love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man,” the film is set to go into pre-production in March 2012 for the British production company, Ecosse Films, whose credits include “Nowhere Boy” and “Mrs. Brown.”

A film about Princess Diana is sure to be controversial, and the script by Steven Jeffreys is said to not cast the Princess “in a particularly favorable light; she is shown as a damaged person who stalks the doctor after he ends the affair.” But director Hirschbiegel has talked to potential buyers at AFM “about the compassion and wisdom that Dr. Kahn showed the princess”, and Chastain has been racking up awards buzz all year for her performances in three of the year’s hit films – “The Tree of Life”, “The Help” and “Take Shelter” – and has also landed a role in Tom Cruise’s upcoming untitled sci-fi film (formerly titled “Oblivion” and “Horizons”), so we think she could be the kind of actress to bring respect and poise to this kind of role.

In 2009′s “Zombieland” Jesse Eisenberg’s Columbus gains an unlikely friend in Woody Harrelson‘s Tallahassee as they team up to battle the undead. So when the news broke that they would be teaming up again, this time to outwit the FBI as criminal magicians, well, Louis Leterrier’s Now You See Me quickly became one of our most anticipated films!

Now, thanks to the American Film Market (via, once again, Collider!), we have an official synopsis of the film, as well as the first promotional poster. The film also stars Dave Franco, Melanie Laurent, Isla Fisher, as well as Michael Caine, Mark Ruffalo and Morgan Freeman, and revolves around a group of highly skilled magicians who pull off bank robberies during their performances, ending their shows by showering their audience with the stolen money.

With such a great mix of up and coming actors and established names, we can’t wait for January 18th, 2013, which is when it is due to open across America.

More new images straight out of this year’s American Film Market! Action star Sam Worthington trades in Perseus’ sword for the surfboard in these new images from surf flick “Drift”, also starring Xavier Samuel (“Twilight: Eclipse”), Myles Pollard (“X-Men Origins: Wolverine”) anf Lesley-Ann Brandt.

Once again, Collider have come up with the goods, and as well as the official poster, and four new images, we also have an official synopsis.

Based on the true story of “Australia’s legendary surfwear moguls”, the film is set in the 1970′s, and follows two brothers, Jimmy (Samuel) and Andy (Pollard) who, helped by photographer and friend JB (Worthington) bet on everything they have by opening a surf shop … and end up building an empire. First look: Jessica Szhor and Ed Speleers in new image for sex comedy/horror “Love Bite”

Ex-’Gossip Girl’ Jessica Szohr has been slowly but surely adding to her film resume over the last few months, joining the cast of teen comedy Owned and indie flick Light Years.

Back in September, we reported that she was to star in the sex comedy/horror film “Love Bite”, with Ed Speelers and Luke Pasqualino, and the American Film Market (via Collider) has delivered us our first image from the film.

Written by Ronan Blaney and Cris Cole, and directed by Andy de Emmony, the story “centers on a small town that falls victim to a werewolf who feeds on teen virgins”. A small group of friends subsequently realize that losing their virginity might provide the best route to survival.

Filming in Scotland only started back in early October, and there is no word on release dates yet.
