emilyblunt Emily Blunt is the latest to head “Into the Woods” for director Rob Marshall. Variety reports Blunt is finalizing her deal to join James Corden, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Chris Pine and Jake Gyllenhaal in Marshall’s big screen adaptation of Stephen Sondhein’s twisted fairy tale musical. She would take the female lead role of the Baker’s Wife opposite Corden as her husband.

The dark and twisted take on fairy tales sees a childless baker and his wife trek into some magical woods to find the witch who put the spell on them. Also heading into the woods are Little Red Riding Hood on her way to grandma’s house, Jack off to sell a cow (only to get some magic beans in return), Cinderella to sneak her way into a ball and more iconic characters. Streep is taking on the role of the Witch, Depp will have a bit role as a sexy version of the Wolf who preys upon Little Red and Pine and Gyllenhaal will play Cinderella’s and Rapunzel’s vain and self-absorbed Princes. The film has no official greenlight or start date yet, but is expected to shoot in the fall.

Blunt broke out in “The Devil Wears Prada” opposite Streep, then had a streak of duds like “Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Wolfman.” But 2012 was a major comeback year for the talented British star thanks to a star-making turn in Rian Johnson’s sci-fi thriller “Looper” opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. She’s been landing one high profile role after another since, with “Woods” following on the heels of futuristic wartime thriller “All You Need is Kill” and Emma Forrest’s memoir adaptation “Your Voice in My Head.”

emilyblunt “Harry Potter” star Emma Watson has fallen out of the adaptation of memoir “Your Voice in My Head”, and has been replaced by fellow British actress Emily Blunt, according to Stanley Tucci, who co-stars in the film.

Speaking to Digital Spy during press rounds for “Jack the Giant Slayer”, Tucci broke the news that it won’t be Watson, but Blunt who will play writer Emma Forrest, whose life is saved from suicide by a terminally ill psychiatrist. Forrest adapted her own memoir for the big screen. Tucci will play the psychiatrist and also reports filming will begin in the spring. It’s likely Watson fell out after her “Harry Potter” director David Yates dropped out nearly a year ago, but there’s been no news of who has replaced him. Come on, Stanley, spill more!

This will be the second time Tucci and Blunt have worked together, the first being “The Devil Wears Prada”, and Tucci is also married to Blunt’s sister Felicity. After that film, Blunt seemed poised for stardom but stalled after getting stuck in studio duds like “Gulliver’s Travels” and “The Wolfman.” But she had an amazing comeback in 2012 thanks to a star-making turn in Rian Johnson’s time travel sci-fi thriller “Looper.” She’s currently filming the female lead opposite Tom Cruise in Doug Liman’s “All You Need is Kill.”

Thanks to U&C reader Emma for the tip!

Newest Marvel rumor pits Emily Blunt against Ruth Wilson for Ms. Marvel in “The Avengers 2″

Captain America is still searching for his next leading lady, but Marvel is clearly looking over the bigger picture. The latest casting rumor has the iconic superhero Ms. Marvel joining Iron Man, Cap, Thor and the rest of the Avengers in “The Avengers 2″, and Britain’s The Daily Mail reports two of its hottest rising actresses are vying for the part: Emily Blunt and Ruth Wilson.

Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner are all expected to reprise their roles from this summer’s blockbuster. Director Joss Whedon recently confirmed as well, and it’s been expected that more superheros from the pages of Marvel will be joining the team, with Carol Danvers, aka Ms. Marvel and Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp, perhaps the most predicted female Avengers. While the Wasp is probably being saved for Edgar Wright’s “Ant-Man” feature, Ms. Marvel could easily show up in “The Avengers 2″ directly. An alum of the Air Force, CIA and NASA, Danvers gains her abilities when she is caught in an explosion of an alien Kree device. She emerges with superhuman strength, speed and near indestructibility. Filming on the superhero team-up sequel should begin next year, after “Thor: The Dark World” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” finish up, and a release date has already been set for May 1, 2015.

British TV actress Charlotte Riley lands role in “All You Need is Kill” opposite Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise

British actress Charlotte Riley has landed a major potential breakout role in Doug Liman’s graphic novel adaptation “All You Need is Kill”, according to Variety. The actress perhaps most known for being engaged to Tom Hardy will be joining Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt in the futuristic Groundhog Day-esque thriller that will film later this fall.

In “All You Need is Kill”, Cruise plays a soldier in a futuristic war against an alien race who finds himself reliving the day he dies over and over again, and becomes more adept at surviving as he learns more throughout each repeated day. Blunt and Riley play fellow soldiers. One – presumably Blunt – Cruise’s character notices for the first time on his 158th repeated day, and who he discovers could lead to his final salvation or downfall.

Riley, who was at one point considered for the Catwoman role in “The Dark Knight Rises”, recently wrapped up shooting on epic miniseries “World Without End” opposite Sarah Gadon, Tom Cullen and many others. She played Cathy opposite Hardy’s Heathcliffe in a 2009 TV Movie adaptation of “Wuthering Heights.”

Emily Blunt lands “All You Need is Kill” opposite Tom Cruise, remains top contender for “The Thin Man”

Looks like British actress Emily Blunt is having a bit of a moment. Variety reports Warner Bros is in negotiations with the “Five Year Engagement” star to play the female lead in “All You Need is Kill”, Doug Liman’s sci-fi thriller starring Tom Cruise. Additionally, the actress remains one of the studio’s favorites for the female lead in Rob Marshall-Johnny Depp comedy “The Thin Man.”

In “All You Need is Kill”, Cruise plays a soldier in a futuristic war against an alien race who finds himself reliving the day he dies over and over again, and becomes more adept at surviving as he learns more throughout each repeated day. Blunt plays another soldier, presumably the one he notices for the first time on his 158th repeated day, and who he discovers could lead to his final salvation or downfall.

In “The Thin Man”, Blunt is reportedly a “top contender”, along with Emma Stone and Kristen Wiig, for the role of Nora Charles, wife to Depp’s Nick Charles, a former detective. The two are unwittingly drawn into investigating a decades old murder, trading flirtation and banter along the way.

After breaking out in “The Devil Wears Prada”, Blunt seemed poised for stardom then seemed to get bogged down in duds like “The Wolfman” and “Gulliver’s Travels.” But positive buzz on “Five Year Engagement”, set to open the Tribeca Film Festival this weekend and releasing on April 27th, is clearly putting the talented comedienne back on the radar. Sure to garner her more buzz is Rhian Johnson’s time-travel thriller “Looper”, in which she stars opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt. That film opens on September 28th.

Adapated from the Japanese manga by Dante Harper, Gosling will play a new soldier who is sent in to battle an alien race only to die on the battlefield and be reborn to battle again. On the 158th rebirth, he notices a female soldier who may be the key to his survival or lead to his ultimate demise once and for all. [
