Blame this one on “My Week with Marilyn” (and a bit of “The Artist”, in my opinion). Variety reports Fox Searchlight is putting together “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho”, a pretty self explanatory title for a film that will chronicle the behind the scenes antics in the filming of the iconic horror flick. All the key roles have already been cast, with Anthony Hopkins playing the legendary director, Helen Mirren as his wife, and Scarlett Johansson and James D’Arcy as his stars, Janet Leigh and Anthony Perkins.
Sacha Gervasi will direct the film about the making of the film, which, to be fair, was fairly intriguing in its own right. Hitchcock had to make the film despite parent studio Paramount hating the project, deeming it “too repulsive” and “impossible for films”, cutting his budget in the process and forcing him to finance it through his own production company and shoot it at Universal instead, and also shoot it in black and white, another cost-lowering measure. The legendary shower scene should also make for ripe some drama on film, as it took nearly a week to shoot and featuring 77 different camera angles.
Johansson was last seen in Cameron Crowe’s underrated “We Bought a Zoo” and is gearing up for the May release of the highly anticipated “The Avengers.” She has also committed to starring in musical drama “Can a Song Save Your Life?” with Mark Ruffalo and also Joseph Gordon Levitt’s directorial debut “Don Jon’s Addiction.” D’Arcy was last seen in Madonna’s “W.E” opposite Andrea Riseborough and will next be seen in the Wachwoski brothers’ ambitious sci-fi epic “Cloud Atlas.”
