Oh, the “Star Wars: Episode VII” rumor mill is far from done churning out even more intriguing possibilities, kids. Now THR jumps in with a couple of bombshells of their own as an addendum to yesterday’s report that Jesse Plemons is a serious contender for one of the lead roles. According to the trade, JJ Abrams met with Michael Fassbender last month about taking a role, and “Girls” breakout star Adam Driver is also being eyed for a role, though presumably a different one. It seems like Driver and PlemonsRead More
In my review of the new season of HBO’s “Girls,” I called it “just about the only show on TV that actually gets female friendships right,” and in the first clip released from the season 3 premiere episode, that sentiment is well on display. Hannah (Lena Dunham) hosts a dinner party for friends Marnie (Allison Williams) and Shoshana (Zosia Mamet) and boyfriend Adam (Adam Driver) clearly just wants to be put out of his misery. “I’m not interested in anything your friends have to say,” Adam told Hannah prior toRead More

Up and Comers Presents: The Breakout Stars of 2013

Another year has come and gone and we have once again been introduced to a brand new crop of future movie stars and Oscar winners. The Class of 2013 skewed older and a bit more mainstream, and surprisingly, we were actually able to correctly predict that several of them would have amazing years. Of course, newcomers still popped up to surprise us and Hollywood and the world, and that’s the fun of it. As always, the hardest part of compiling this list is narrowing them down, and we’ve had toRead More
Music is obviously the centerpiece of the Coen Brothers’ upcoming “Inside Llewyn Davis,” and we’ve got three new clips from the film that showcase Oscar Isaac and company creating and performing some tracks from the film. Isaac plays the titular Llewyn Davis, a down on his luck folk musician in 1960s New York who encounter a Coen-esque cast of characters including John Goodman’s cynical blues man, his driver Garrett Hedlund, Davis’ ex Carey Mulligan and her new husband Justin Timberlake, and Adam Driver’s Al, a musician who looks to beRead More
Barren and beautiful imagery abound in the first trailer released for John Curran’s Australian outback drama “Tracks,” starring Mia Wasikowska as a real life young woman who decided to make a solo 2,000 mile trek through the desert, because “why not?” Wasikowska plays Robyn Davidson, who in 1977 walked across the Australian desert by herself, with only four camels and her dog for company. Adam Driver plays Rick Sloman, the National Geographic photographer who met up with her at various points in her journey to photograph her progress. Our ownRead More
Lena Dunham, Allison Williams, Zosia Mamet and Jemima Kirke are all dressed up with nowhere to go (figuratively speaking, of course) on the first poster for season 3 of HBO’s hit comedy “Girls,” unveiled today by People. Wearing prom dresses, befitting the twenty-something characters who still act like teenagers most of the time, the girls look everything from bored to lost to happy, just about the gamut of emotions a Millenial can feel. It’s also got the element of playing dress up, which could be a nod and a winkRead More
The upcoming film with the coolest group of people working on it just got a little bit cooler. The Wrap reports Adam Driver is now joining Jeff Nichols’ next feature, “Midnight Special,” which already stars Michael Shannon, Joel Edgerton and Kirsten Dunst. The film, described as a modern day chase thriller, follows a dad and his 8 year old son who go on the run after they discover the son is developing special powers. Nichols also previously described the story as a tribute to 1980s John Carpenter, “Starman” in particular.Read More
UPDATE: Latest rumor from Comic Book Movie indicates the other two candidates for the job are Ezra Miller and “Gossip Girl” star Penn Badgley. They wanted a “young John Hawkes” and it looks like they just might get one. The Wrap reports “Girls” breakout star Adam Driver is the frontrunner for the newly revealed role of Dick Grayson in Zack Snyder’s “Batman Vs. Superman” team-up flick. While most of the attention has focused on the search for the female lead, which may or may not be Wonder Woman, Latino ReviewRead More
Adaptations of Robyn Davidson’s cult classic autobiography “Tracks” have been circling Hollywood for decades, and now 35 years after Davidson undertook the near-impossible task of trekking 1,700 miles from Alice Springs to the Indian Ocean with just four camels and a dog for company, John Curran’s “Tracks” has made it on to the big screen. It’s a gorgeous love letter to the beauty of the Outback but an empty story with no depth afforded to this remarkable woman. Davidson’s reason for the trek, which took nine months and covered theRead More
