Two television actors hoping to sink their teeth into the big screen, Variety reports that Grimes and Roemer begin production on the film, to be directed by Babak Payami, this week.

The script from Matt Deller follows a beautiful vampire (Roemer), “who commissions an artist (Grimes) to paint her so she can see herself for the first time. She is unaware that the artist is dying and desperately working to create his last masterpiece that will give him artistic immortality.”

Grimes, who starred in cult movie “All The Boys Love Mandy Lane” is perhaps best known for his role in “Brothers and Sisters”. He also featured in the Liam Neeson-starrer “Taken 2″ and was on Michael Bay‘s shortlist for “Transformers 4“.

Jena Malone To Battle Ghosts In Victorian Tale “Angelica”

jenamalone “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” star Jena Malone will be trading in a futuristic battlefield for a creepy Victorian manor in her new film “Angelica”, according to Deadline.

In the 19th Century England-set film based on the novel by Arthur Phillips, Malone will play Constance, who marries Dr. Joseph Barton and gives birth to a baby girl named Angelica. After the difficult childbirth, doctors force the couple to remain celibate, which causes problems in their marriage and on top of that, somehow allows a ghostly presence to move into the household and wreak havoc on the already tenuous relationships of its occupants. Mitchell Lichtenstein will direct.

Malone recently wrapped up shooting the pivotal role of Johanna Mason in Francis Lawrence’s sequel “The Hunger Games” Catching Fire.” Last seen on the big screen opposite Emily Browning in Zack Snyder’s “Sucker Punch”, she also recently appeared on hit TNT mini-series “Hatfields & McCoys” and is attached to play acclaimed novelist Carson McCullers in “Lonely Hunger.”

“Girls” Star Adam Driver Is A “Coward” In First Lead Film Role

February 28, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

adam-driver “Girls” breakout star Adam Driver, one of our Faces to Watch in 2013, has booked his first lead role on the big screen. Deadline reports Driver will topline indie period comedy “Coward”, to be directed by “Ceremony” helmer Max Winkler.

In the comedy set in 18th Century England, Driver will play a nobleman whose family has a long history ending up on the losing side of to-the-death duels. When he’s challenged to such a duel, he hires a criminal to take his place. The criminal ends up rather liking the lifestyle of the rich and steals Driver’s character’s identity. Winkler wrote the script with Matt Spicer and it’s adapted from the Nick Jones play. Deadline reports the increasingly in demand Driver was offered several projects but chose this one.

Driver is clearly a rising star to keep an eye on. After a small role in Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated “Lincoln”, in 2013 he’ll continue to make his mark on the indie scene with roles opposite Greta Gerwig in Noah Baumbach’s “Frances Ha”, which charmed festival audiences last year, as Daniel Radcliffe’s best friend in rom com “The F Word”, and opposite Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in the Coen Brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis.” He’s also completed filming on Australian outback drama “Tracks” opposite Mia Wasikowska.

Jason Clarke In, Chris Hemsworth Out of Thriller “Candy Store”?

February 27, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

jason-clarke Last we heard back in November, Australian action star Chris Hemsworth had attached himself to Stephen Gaghan’s crime thriller “Candy Store”, but that may no longer be the case. In an interview with MTV at the Oscars on Sunday, Hemsworth’s fellow countryman Jason Clarke offered up that he will star in the film.

The film follows an elite operative who retires to Brooklyn, only to find the enemy he once fought setting up shop in his new neighborhood. It’s possible Hemsworth is still attached to the role of the protagonist while Clarke will play the villain, but since Hemsworth’s attachment was tenuous at best even at the time we reported it, it seems much more likely that Clarke, with an increased profile in Hollywood, will be taking over the lead role.

Clarke, one of our Faces to Watch in 2013, had a hell of a 2012 with roles in John Hillcoat’s “Lawless” and Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty”, in which he gave a scene-stealing, Oscar-worthy performance opposite Jessica Chastain. In 2013 he’ll see Channing Tatum starrer “White House Down” and Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” released, and most recently he landed his biggest role yet, as the lead of Matt Reeves’ sequel “The Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

Bradley Cooper to Star in and Maybe Direct Remake of German Film “Kokowaah”

February 27, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

bradley-cooper What’s next for Bradley Cooper now that he’s proven himself a serious, Oscar-nominated actor? Maybe directing. Deadline reports Cooper is developing a remake of German film “Kokowaah” as a starring vehicle and is also considering stepping behind the camera. But if he doesn’t direct this one, he is on active lookout for another film to make his feature directorial debut on.

In “Kokowaah” (a working title if there ever was one), Cooper will play one of two men, carefree bachelor Henry or married father Trevor. The lives of the two men are unraveled when the shocking identity of the father of Trevor’s 8 year old daughter is revealed. We can see where this is going. German crossover star Til Schweiger played Henry in the original 2011 film, so it’s likely Cooper is eyeing the bachelor role as well.

But “Kokowaah” marks yet another in-development project Cooper has attached himself to that are probably nowhere near ready to roll camera yet. Culinary comedy “Chef”, murder mystery “The Man From Primrose Lane” and WWII thriller “Dark Invasion” are also part of his long term plans. In the short term, Cooper will reunite with “Silver Linings Playbook” director David O. Russell and co-star Jennifer Lawrence this spring on an untitled political thriller about the 1970s sting operation Abscam. Cooper and Lawrence have already shot and are awaiting the release of their second feature together, “Serena”, which should hit this year, while “The Hangover III” and Toronto hit “The Place Beyond the Pines” are also ready for their audiences.

Tom Hardy to Tackle PTSD in Wartime Drama “Samarkand”

tom-hardy Busy British actor Tom Hardy has added one more project to his plate. Deadline reports Hardy will develop and star in “Samarkand”, a contemporary soldier’s tale which deals with the topic of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

Brothers Greg and Olly Williams wrote the script after developing the story with Hardy and Solar Pictures’ Bobby Paunescu and Greg Williams, a famous celebrity photographer known for his portraits of Daniel Craig’s Bond among others, will make his directorial debut on the project. Hardy will play an SAS soldier who returns home from combat in the Middle East and has trouble reintegrating back into society.

It’s unclear when this will begin production as Hardy’s upcoming schedule locks up tighter. Up next for the “Inception” and “The Dark Knight Rises” breakout star is two back to back films with Noomi Rapace. The duo will film crime drama “Animal Rescue” in March, before moving on to spy thriller “Child 44″ in May. Hardy is also attached to Doug Liman’s “Everest” as well as Steven Knight’s “Locke.”

First Look at Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson with Andrew Garfield on the Set of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″

February 26, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

spidey-andrewshailenesm We got a first glimpse of Peter Parker yesterday, and now here’s Mary Jane Watson! Shailene Woodley joined co-star Andrew Garfield on the set of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ today, and Just Jared and Zimbio have the first photos.

Woodley sported her new MJ-styled red hair as she filmed a scene with Garfield’s Peter, who’s working on an old car as she pulls up on a motorcycle. Not much to see here, but it is our first look at Woodley in full-blown MJ garb and she looks great. Presumably director Marc Webb has scheduled all of Mary Jane’s scenes (which aren’t supposed to be too many) for the beginning of the shoot since the in demand Woodly is expected to begin filming on YA adaptation “Divergent” at the beginning of April. Dane DeHaan, who recently talked about bulking up for his role as Harry Osborn, will probably be spotted soon, as well as Emma Stone, who is returning as Gwen Stacey, and Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti, joining the franchise as villains Electro and Rhino, respectively.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ will be released on May 2, 2014 and several new images of Woodley and Garfield from today’s filming in Brooklyn are below.

Taylor Kitsch heads for “Exit 147″

February 26, 2013 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Casting Leave a comment

taylorkitschLooks like Taylor Kitsch has been given one more chance. After box office flops “Battleship” and “John Carter“, the actor has signed on to headline horror-thriller “Exit 147” which will be directed by Julian Jarrold (“Becoming Jane”)

Bloody Disgusting (via The Playlist) report that the film is “about a man driving across the desert at night who is arrested by a small town sheriff (Kitsch) and held captive as part of his own sadistic game.” Both The Playlist and Bloody Disgusting use headlines that suggest Kitsch will be fighting the sadistic killer but this quote from Bloody Disgusting sounds to us that it will be Kitsch holding the driver captive. Either way, no word so far on who will be Kitsch’s co-star.

Kitsch broke out on the small screen as Tim Riggins in the critically acclaimed “Friday Night Lights” and although it’s not exactly fair to say that the failure of “Battleship” and “John Carter” can be left at Kitsch’s door, it has proven that Kitsch alone isn’t a box office draw. Next up for Kitsch though is Peter Berg’s ensemble SEAL drama “Lone Survivor“, which Kitsch as been attached to for nearly two years. Also starring Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster and Alexander Ludwig, the film is an adaptation chronicling SEAL Marcus Luttrell’s own experience in Afghanistan.

“The Perks of Being a Wallflower” Star Heads to “Downer’s Grove”

February 25, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting 1 Comment

zane-holtz Canadian actor Zane Holtz, who played Logan Lerman’s older brother in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, has been cast in indie thriller “The Curse of Downer’s Grove”, another YA book adaptation, according to Variety. Bella Heathcote plays the lead in the film, with Lucas Till, Kevin Zegers and Penelope Mitchell rounding out the cast. Earlier reports had “Friday Night Lights” star Aimee Teegarden also part of the cast, but there’s been no mention of her in more recent articles.

Derek Martini will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Bret Easton Ellis, based on the novel “Downer’s Grove” by Michael Hornburg. Heathcote will play the lead character of Chrissie, an unusual high school senior in a suburban town who juggles family drama, unwanted attention from a school bully and attraction to a hot older man all while worrying about the curse that seems to exist in her town: Every year before school ends a member of the graduating class is killed in bizarre fashion. Holtz will be a drug-addicted sidekick to Zegers’ charcter, presumably the overly amorous school bully. Filming is expected to start in the spring.

Holtz made a brief appearance in Stephen Chobsky’s adaptation of his own novel “The Perks of Being a Wallflower”, and recently wrapped up starring roles in two indies: Russell Friedenberg’s “Wind Walkers” and Danny Buday’s “Another Stateside.”

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ Suit Revealed as Andrew Garfield Spotted Filming in NYC

February 25, 2013 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 1 Comment

tasm2sm Sony Pictures released the first official photo of the superhero’s new suit for “The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ today, and the timing of the release became clear as just a few hours later, Andrew Garfield himself was spotted donning the suit for our first glimpse of the set of the Marc Webb comic book adaptation sequel.

Webb has been tweeting sometimes cryptic photos from the set, but this is the first outdoor shoot and Britain’s Daily Mail got the first photos of the titular webslinger himself. Garfield returns as Peter Parker, Emma Stone is back as Gwen Stacy, Sally Field returns to reprise Aunt May and even Martin Sheen as Uncle Ben is back (somehow). We only have vague plot speculations based on comic canon, but Peter’s new friends include Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn, while new adversaries are taking the forms of Jamie Foxx as Electro and Paul Giamatti as Rhino.

“The Amazing Spider-Man 2″ will be released on May 2, 2014 and the full image of the new suit, as well as a couple of pictures of Garfield and who looks to be an upside down stuntman on set, are below.
