First Look: Photos from the set of “A Good Day to Die Hard” reveal Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s return

August 8, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Casting, Images Leave a comment

There was a lot of hoopla surrounding the casting of the new co-lead of “A Good Day to Die Hard”, Bruce Willis’ fifth time donning his most famous character John McClane. In the end, little known Aussie actor Jai Courtney landed the role of John McClane, Jr. aka Jack, who will be poised to take over the franchise from the aging action star should he be a hit with audiences. Through it all though, we wondered about that other McClane progeny.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead played Lucy McClane in “Live Free or Die Hard”, the fourth installment of the action series, and had appeared to be sitting this one out, giving the spotlight to her brother, but new photos from the Budapest set of the film indicates she may appear in at least one scene.

Moviehole (via Bleeding Cool) got the photos of Winstead as Lucy apparently dropping off Dad at the airport. The bulk of the action takes place in Moscow, with McClanes Sr. and Jr. teaming up to save the world, so it seems safe to say Winstead’s role may be limited to waving goodbye from New York as the men in the family take care of action hero business. See the photos below, and head over to the original sources for more.

Watch: Elizabeth Olsen lightens up in first trailer for Josh Radnor’s Sundance hit “Liberal Arts”

Elizabeth Olsen has proven several times over that she’s got serious dramatic chops and has a penchant for the dark and twisted, so it’s rather a delight that we get to see her in a whole new light in the first trailer for Josh Radnor’s sophomore directorial effort, “Liberal Arts.”

As Zibby, a 19 year old college student who catches the eye of Radnor’s Jesse, a 35 year old newly single bookworm on a return visit to his alma mater, she teases, flirts and effervesces through our first look at their slightly inappropriate courtship. Also starring Richard Jenkins, Allison Janney and Zac Efron, “Liberal Arts” debuted to solid reviews at the Sundance Film Festival this January and will be released on September 14th.

The first trailer, along with the first poster from the film, can be viewed below.

First look at Thomas Mann as Link with Emmy Rossum as Ridley in teen novel adaptation “Beautiful Creatures”

August 6, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Slowly but surely we are beginning to see a fuller picture emerge for witchy teen romance adaptation “Beautiful Creatures.” We’ve seen Ethan and Lena (Alden Ehrenreich and Alice Englert) frolicking about and a dark and dramatic vision of bad girl Ridley (Emmy Rossum), and now, Ridley having a bit of fun with Thomas Mann’s character Link. Along with the new photo, Rossum tweeted, “Another side of Ridley! Here I teach Thomas Mann’s character a bit of magic.”

As fans of “Beautiful Creatures” know, this picture is much more in tune with the playful character from the books, who is blonde and often seen with a lollipop in her mouth while making mischief. In the Richard LaGravenese adapted and directed film based on the first novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Ehrenreich plays Ethan Wate, a popular high school student plagued by dreams of a mysterious girl – who then magically shows up in his town. That girl, of course, is Lena Duchaness, to be played by Englert, an outsider who’s also harboring a dangerous and, ahem, bewitching secret. Mann takes on the role of Link, Ethan’s musically inclined and loyal best friend.

“Beautiful Creatures”, which will be released on February 13th, 2013, also stars Kyle Gallner, Thomas Mann, Viola Davis, Jeremy Irons and Emma Thompson. See the first image of Mann with Rossum below.

First trailer and images for Kathryn Bigelow’s “Zero Dark Thirty” starring Joel Edgerton and Jessica Chastain

August 6, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images, Videos 1 Comment

Kathryn Bigelow has been deep in development and production on her first film since winning the Best Picture Oscar for 2009′s “The Hurt Locker”, and today the teaser trailer for Osama Bin Laden thriller “Zero Dark Thirty” has been unveiled. The film, like the mission itself, has been shrouded in controversy and secrecy, with a cast led by Joel Edgerton, Jessica Chastain and Kyle Chandler. As for the mysterious and slightly confusing title, Bigelow tells EW, “It’s a military term for 30 minutes after midnight, and it refers also to the darkness and secrecy that cloaked the entire decade long mission.”

From first impressions, the film seems much sleeker than “The Hurt Locker”, though surely the final product will see more of Bigelow’s signature grit and intensity. “Zero Dark Thirty” has been set for a post-Presidential election and Oscar-friendly December 19th release. The first trailer and a couple of images can be viewed below, be sure to head over to EW for much more in-depth coverage on the film.

First look at Holliday Grainger as Estella with Jeremy Irvine as Pip in Mike Newell’s “Great Expectations”

August 2, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 3 Comments

It’s been almost a year since we got our first look at Jeremy Irvine as the orphan Pip in Mike Newell’s new big screen adaptation of Dickens classic “Great Expectations”, but with a premiere at the Toronto Film Festival around the corner next month, it was about time we get our first look at British rising star Holliday Grainger as the cold and manipulative love of Pip’s life, Estella. The Playlist got their hands on the new photos, which show a dramatic and somewhat unexpected costuming on Grainger’s Estella.

Irvine’s Pip is a kind orphan who grows up to be a distinguished gentleman of society through the generosity of an anonymous benefactor, who longs for unattainable and cold beauty Estella throughout the book and must face the dark places that his mysterious fortune originated from. This adaptation of “Great Expectations” is one of two to be released in 2012 to celebrate Dickens’ bicentenary; a BBC miniseries with Douglas Booth as Pip and Vanessa Kirby as Estella aired earlier this year.

The new photos can be viewed below, while The Playlist have a few more of Helena Bonham Carter as Miss Havisham and Ralph Fiennes as the convict Magwitch.

First Look: Liam Hemsworth romances Teresa Palmer in stills from wartime drama “Love and Honor”

July 26, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images Leave a comment

Aussie rising stars Liam Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer make love, not war in our first look at stills from indie Vietnam War drama/romance “Love and Honor” (previously “AWOL”).

Initially it had been reported that Austin Stowell plays a soldier dumped by his hometown girlfriend (Aimee Teegarden), with Hemsworth as his best friend who joins him in going AWOL in order to return to the United States to win her back, but that appears to have been backwards. Hemsworth and Palmer are the central romance of the film, if the stills and the first poster are any indication.

The backdrop of the tale is the anti-war movement on the campus of the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. Danny Mooney directed the film which is tentatively set for release later this year. The stills of Hemsworth and Palmer, which seem to indicate a trailer may be on its way soon, can be seen below, thanks to Just Jared.

First look: Kristen Wiig and Darren Criss in dark comedy “Imogene”, premiering at Toronto International Film Festival

July 24, 2012 | Posted by Rebecca Lewis in Images Leave a comment

Kristen Wiig is swapping rude and crude comedy for something darker this September, as the comedian returns to the big screen at Toronto International Film Festival in Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini‘s “Imogene“.

The film follows “a washed-up playwright who, after faking her own suicide as a ploy to get her ex-boyfriend’s attention, winds up remanded to the custody of her wackily dysfunctional family.” SNL writer Michelle Morgan wrote the script and it is a film that Wiig has been championing for several years, finally being able to get the film into production after the success of last year’s smash hit “Bridesmaids“.

Also starring ‘Glee”s Darren Criss, Annette Bening and Matt Dillon, TIFF.net have three new images for us, starring Wiig and Criss, and although the film currently has no US disctribution, we’re sure that will soon change.

First Look: Tom Holland survives a tsunami with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in first stills from “The Impossible”

July 24, 2012 | Posted by Linda Ge in Images 2 Comments

Young British actor Tom Holland seems to be a major force in Juan Antonio Bayona’s realistic retelling of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. “The Impossible”, just announced this morning to have its world premiere as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival, stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts as parents to three young boys and follows their search for the missing pieces of their family in the aftermath of the disaster. Holland, currently filming “How I Live Now” opposite Saiorse Ronan, plays Lucas, their oldest.

From the look of the stills, it appears Lucas gets stranded in dire straits with mom, while the two younger boys have managed to stay relatively dry with dad. “The Impossible” already has a US release date of December 21, 2012 via Summit Entertainment. Several images from the film can be seen below, while TIFF.net has more.

It had been speculated as a potential Cannes premiere, but at last Bahrani’ midwest race-car/family drama “At Any Price” has found its festival. The Toronto International Film Festival announced this morning the film will premiere as a Special Presentation during the September 6-16 run.

In “At Any Price”, Efron plays “a rebellious son whose dreams of becoming a professional race-car driver are derailed when his father’s farming empire becomes the target of a high-stakes investigation.” Dennis Quaid plays his father, while Heather Graham and one-to-watch Maika Monroe are part of the supporting cast.
