You may want to rethink the next time you advise someone to take a risk after watching the trailer to “Nerve,” which was released today. The YA adaptation is going to take Emma Roberts and Dave Franco on a wild ride.
Based on Jeanne Ryan’s 2012 novel, the film centers on the extremely cautious Vee (Roberts). Her friends suggest Vee do something exciting, so she starts playing interactive game Nerve. “Watchers” challenge “players” to complete dares on camera to win money. Vee’s first dare is to kiss a stranger and she picks Franco’s Ian. When the “watchers” decide to pair them up a wild adventure begins. When begins as an exhilarating ride of tattoos and streaking turns dangerous when the duo realizes their identities have been stolen. With no one willing to help, Ian and Vee make complete life-threatening dares in order to win the game and save themselves.
Emily Meade, Kimiko Glenn, Miles Heizer, Marc John Jefferies, Samira Wiley and Juliette Lewis also star.
“Nerve” is directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman. Jessica Sharzer will write the film and Allison Shearmur is set to produce.
