Supergirl is headed to the big screen. Kinda.
Melissa Benoist, star of the CBS series, has joined the cast of Boston Marathon Bombing Drama “Patriots Day.” According to The Wrap she will play the widow of one of the bombers.
“Patriots Day” centers on the police investigation surrounding the Boston Marathon Bombings. Mark Wahlberg leads the cast as Sgt. Tommy Saunders. Benoist has been cast as Katherine Russell. She is the widow of Boston Marathon bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev (Themo Melikidze).
Khandi Alexander, James DuMont and Jake Picking have also joined the cast. Alexander will play an interrogator while DuMont is set to play government official. Picking has been cast as Officer Sean Collier.
They join an all star cast that includes Kevin Bacon, Michael Beach, James Colby, Vince Curatola, John Goodman,Michelle Monaghan, J.K. Simmons, Jimmy O. Yang and Alex Wolff.
Peter Berg will direct the film while Matt Charman wrote the script. Dorothy Aufiero, Dylan Clark, Stephen Levinson, Hutch Parker, Michael Radutzky, Scott Stuber and Wahlberg will produce.
Benoist has been a big splash this television season with her leading role on CBS drama “Supergirl.” Her film credits include “Whiplash” and the upcoming “Lowriders.”
Production has begun in Boston. The film is set for December.
