Austin Stowell is getting into a relationship with Billie Jean King…kind of.

“Battle of the Sexes” chronicles the life and struggles of tennis star and feminist icon Billie Jean King. In September 1973 she competed against tennis champ Bobby Riggs and won, making a name for herself and proving Riggs wrong about his belief that the female game was inferior. The win made the 29-year-old an instant star and representative for her gender. The film also focuses on her personal life, which includes marrying her husband Larry (Stowell) then discovered her is a lesbian. King became the first famous female athlete to come out.
Steve Carell has been cast as Bobby Riggs while Andrea Riseborough will play Jean’s secret lover Marilyn Barnett. Also cast in an undisclosed role is Elizabeth Shue.
Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris will serve as directors while Simon Beaufoy will write the biopic. Danny Boyle and Christian Colson will produce.
Stowell is coming off a high profile role in “Bridge of Spies.” His other credits include “Secret Life of the American Teenager,” “Public Morals,” “Whiplash” and the upcoming “Colossal.”
