TV: ‘Preacher’ Casts Ruth Negga in Female Lead Role

AMC is getting into the DC Comics game with “Preacher” and the pilot has cast its first actor. Ruth Negga has joined the drama as its female lead according to Deadline.

“Preacher” follows Jesse Custer as he goes on a mission to find God. Custer is a preacher in a Texas town who unites with a creature from Heaven and gains the ability to control people’s actions. Negga will play Jesse’s ex-girlfriend Tulip. She’s a vicious and well dressed criminal who joins in on the mission to find God.

The drama, from Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, has set Sam Catlin as its showrunner.

Negga is currently recurring as Raina on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Her other credits include “All Is By My Side” as well as European dramas “Love/Hate” and “Misfits.” She will next be seen in Duncan Jones’ “Warcraft” video game adaptation.
