The search is over for the new Rick Flagg. Variety reports Joel Kinnaman nabbed the role in “Suicide Squad,” which was previously Tom Hardy’s.

“Suicide Squad” follows a team of DC comics villains who work for the government. They take complete each mission hoping for redemption after committing numerous crimes. Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg is the leader of the group. The team of villains will be played by Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Jared Leto, Margot Robbie and Will Smith. They will be playing Captain Boomerang, Enchantress, The Joker, Harley Quinn and Deadshot respectively.

After Tom Hardy had to pull out because of scheduling issues, there was a search for a new actor. Jake Gyllenhaal, Joel Edgerton and Jon Bernthal were some of the actors up for the role.

The film’s release date is Aug. 5, 2016.

Kinnaman’s breakout role was playing Detective Holder on four seasons of “The Killing.” Since then he has been in films, starting with a lead role in last year’s “Robocop.” His upcoming projects include “Knight of Cups,” “Child 44” and “Run All Night.”
