Stephen Amell, Ben McKenzie and Grant Gustin better make room for a new hero on the scene. According to TVLine, Melissa Benoist has nabbed the role Kara on the CBS series “Supergirl.”
The series will follow Benoist’s Kara, who has grown up on Earth since her home planet Krypton was destroyed. After hiding her powers all these years, the young woman is now ready to tap into her superhero potential. She is ready to accept her powers and is determined to use them for good.
This is one of the biggest roles this pilot season. “Arrow” made a major splash in 2012 and is now a successful television series currently in its third season. That success spawn “The Flash,” which has been a breakout hit this television season. The midseason drama “iZombie” will be the third DC series on the network. “Gotham” has done well over at Fox, getting an early renewal. “Constantine” has not been a runaway hit for NBC, but no word on a potential season two has been released.
“Supergirl” is not the only live-action DC television project in development. “Titans,” the Teen Titans adaptation, is being developed at TNT. After the success of comic book adaptation “The Walking Dead,” AMC is developing “Preacher.” Fox is going for round two with pilot “Lucifer” while “Krypton” is being developed at Syfy.
Benoist is known for her supporting role in critically acclaimed “Whiplash” opposite Miles Teller. Her credits include “Glee” and “Homeland.”
