The first still of “Divergent” sequel “Insurgent” has been released.
In the photo we see Tris (Shailene Woodley), her brother Caleb (Ansel Elgort) and Four (Theo James) running through a field with their weapons ready. With our characters left on the run with no where to go at the end of “Divergent,” it seems the sequel will pick up right where we left off. Now factionless after fighting against Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and ruining her plans to use Dauntless to kill off the Abnegation faction, Tris and her companions must figure out what to do next.
The caption to the photograph reads “Brace yourselves, Initiates… Friday 12/12,” which could mean we will be getting more footage from the upcoming film soon. Many fans were not enthusiastic about the first teaser trailer, which showed Tris in a destroyed city trying to save her mother. Without any actual glimpse at the other beloved characters or the plot, the teaser fell short.
In addition to Woodley, Elgort, James and Winslet, many of the cast of the first film will be reprising their roles in “Insurgent.” Zoe Kravitz and Maggie Q will return as Tris’ Dauntless allies Christina and Tori respectively. Tris’ Dauntless captive Peter (Miles Teller) and Four’s abusive father Marcus (Ray Stevenson) will continue their journey with those that escaped Dauntless in “Divergent.” Dauntless traitors in Jeanine’s employ Max and Eric, played by Mekhi Phifer and Jai Courtney respectively, are also expected to return.
Octavia Spencer, Naomi Watts, Daniel Dae Kim and Rosa Salazar are among the new cast additions for the sequel.
“Insurgent” is set to be released March 20, 2015.
