Claire Holt could be going from one mythical creature to another. The CW alum who played a vampire on “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals” is in contention for the titular superhero role on CBS’ upcoming “Supergirl” series, according to TheWrap.

If she lands the role, Holt would take on the role of Kara Zor-El, an alien from the planet Krypton who’s been hiding her superhuman abilities while trying to blend in on Earth, which is also where her more famous cousin Clark Kent, aka Superman, also resides. In the hourlong series, Kara is now 24 years old and has decided to embrace her powers and become the hero known as Supergirl. Holt doesn’t have the job quite yet, but is testing for the role against several other young actresses.

Holt originated the role of Rebekah Mikaelson on the third season of “The Vampire Diaries” and continued playing the ancient vampire on spinoff series “The Originals,” though she left the show as a series regular and has only returned for guest appearances. Holt has also been cast as a regular on NBC’s upcoming Charles Manson drama series “Aquarius.”
