ABC is sending a small town bad boy up in space. Wilson Bethel is the latest addition to the network’s upcoming drama “The Astronaut Wives Club,” according to Deadline.
The period drama follows the wives of astronauts during the pinnacle of the space race. These women supported their husbands while they were off on missions to explore outer space. Bethel will play Scott Carpenter, a laid-back astronaut with a very opinionated modern wife named Rene (Yvonne Strahovski).
The other wives will be played by Dominique McElligott, Azure Parsons, Zoe Boyle and Odette Annable, while Desmond Harrington and Bret Harrison round out the male roles. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are producing the series based on Lily Koppel’s popular book.
Bethel is best known for his current role Wade Kinsella on The CW’s “Hart of Dixie,” which will not be impacted by his commitment to “The Astronaut Wives Club.” Since the ABC drama is a limited series consisting of 10 episodes, the actor can do both shows, especially since “Hart of Dixie” was renewed for only 13 episodes. His other credits include “The Young and the Restless” and HBO’s “Generation Kill.”
