“House of Cards” star and future Invisible Woman Kate Mara has been offered one of the lead roles in Ridley Scott’s sci-fi actioner “The Martian” starring Matt Damon, according to Deadline.
The adaptation of Andy Weir’s book follows Damon as an astronaut who is stranded alone on Mars after an accident and must survive long enough in order to be rescued. Jessica Chastain, Cate Blanchett and Kristen Wiig were all previously linked to the project, though it’s unclear which of them are still involved or what roles they would play. Mackenzie Davis was most recently set for a small but pivotal role.
“The Martian” is set to be released on November 25, 2015.
Mara, who was recently nominated for an Emmy for her role as journalist Zoe Barnes on Netflix’s “House of Cards,” recently wrapped up Josh Trank’s “Fantastic Four” reboot opposite Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan. She’s also attached to psychological thriller “Man Down” opposite Shia LaBeouf.
