Hayley Atwell is set to bring Peggy Carter back with an appearance on “Agents of SHIELD” according to The Wrap.
Peggy Carter was first played by the actress in “Captain America: The First Avenger” as the female lead opposite Chris Evans. ABC has given a series order to a Marvel show starring Atwell called “Agent Carter”, but before it airs we will get a glimpse of Peggy Carter in the season premiere of the ABC drama.
Specifics on how the character will be appearing have not been released. She could be in flashbacks showing the beginnings of SHIELD or in present-day as she did in “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”.
The “Agents of SHEILD” season two premiere is titled “Shadows” and picks up with a destroyed SHIELD and our characters trying to stay under the radar. With HYDRA still around and without the resources of SHIELD our heroes are in trouble. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) left Coulson (Clark Gregg) in charge of rebuilding SHEILD after the events of last season.
The incorporation of Peggy Carter onto Marvel television properties is part of bringing together the Cinemative Universe and the television programs, which is a very innovative move started earlier this year. Last season the destruction of SHIELD was part of this year’s “Captain America: The Winter Solider”, but was a major plot point on the ABC television show as well. The addition of Peggy Carter on both “Agents of SHIELD” and her own show is Marvel’s next connection between the big and small screens.
While much of the plot and specifics on “Agent Carter” have not been released we do know a little about the show. The midseason ABC drama will follow Carter as she moves on with her life after believing Captain America is dead. Peggy Carter will be doing office work for the Strategic Scientific Reserve by day while secretly going on missions with Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), who will also reprise his role from “Captain America: The First Avenger”. Enver Gjokaj and Chad Michael Murray will also star.
ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD” will return on Septeber 23.
