While it was looking as if Lupita N’yongo would join Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming boxing drama “Southpaw,” Deadline recently reported that Naomie Harris has signed on instead and will star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.

The story follows a welterweight champion (Gyllenhaal) who, despite cultivating a successful career, suffers from a crumbling personal and family life. Harris will play a social worker named Angela who works with Gyllenhaal’s character and his daughter. Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker also star.

Naomie Harris first gained attention when she joined the “Pirates of the Caribbean” films as the mysterious Calypso. She’s since starred alongside Idris Elba in “Nelson Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” and has recently wrapped on Susanna White’s “Our Kind of Traitor” starring Ewan McGregor. The self-proclaimed Bond woman will also reprise her role in the 007 franchise as Eve Moneypenney in “Bond 24.”
