Shawn Levy’s comedy about a dysfunctional family stuck in a house together for a week is one of our most anticipated movies of the year and even though we haven’t seen much from it, now we have the first official photo from “This Is Where I Leave You.”
Based on the novel of the same name by Jonathan Tropper (who also wrote the screenplay), the film sees Jason Bateman leading the cast, introduced in this family photo released via EW, as a man who’s just lost his job and his wife and who must now return home to sit Shiva in his childhood home with his entire family following the death of his father. The dysfunctional family includes two brothers (Corey Stoll and Adam Driver) and an older sister (Tina Fey), as well as a cast of surrounding spouses, neighbors, friends and foes.
“We need a new term for the tone. It’s not a dark comedy—because it’s not that dark. But it’s an emotional comedy,” says Fey of the film. And having read the book, she’s just about right on target in that assessment. The all-star cast is rounded out by Ben Schwartz, Connie Britton, Rose Byrne, Kathryn Hahn, Jane Fonda and Timothy Olyphant.
“This Is Where I Leave You” opens on September 12th and I’m really hoping we’ll get a trailer soon.
