Saoirse Ronan has to choose between two men and two cities in John Crowley’s adaptation of Colm Toinbin’s “Brooklyn,” but it looks like Domhnall Gleeson is giving her a hell of a reason to choose him in the first still released from the film. And we’ve already seen them frolicking on the beach together in set photos, so could Ronan’s heart belong to Ireland, despite the film’s title?
Ronan plays Ellis Lacey in the 1950s set romantic drama, a young Irish woman who moves to New York for a career opportunity and ends up falling for an American boy named Tony (Emory Cohen, who we haven’t seen yet). When she’s called back to her hometown, she meets Gleeson’s Jim and falls for him too, putting her in a position to choose between two very different lives.
There’s no release date yet, but hopefully it lands distribution soon because this is certainly one of our most anticipated upcoming projects.
