The CW has really been stepping it up lately in terms of offering up shows that go beyond the “teen soap” genre (though there’s plenty of that to go around as well, not that there’s anything wrong with that). One example is the next new drama getting set to premiere next month. It’s called “The 100” (The Hundred, not The One Hundred) and having seen the first four episodes, we can tell you that it is exciting, dark, twisted and totally addictive.
It’s based on the book of the same name by Kass Morgan, and while the “‘Lost’ for teens” label fits somewhat, it’s also much more than that, and perhaps more to the point, it’s its own thing. Set 97 years after the Earth has been made inhospitable thanks to a nuclear fallout, the remaining human population is living on an “Ark” hovering just above the ground, waiting for the day the air clears enough for humans to reclaim and repopulate it. When the “Ark” starts to run out of its own resources, however, 100 delinquent teens are sent down to the ground in secret – because who cares if they die, you know? – to test it out and to see if it’s safe for their parents and families to join them.
These are the teens we follow primarily in the beginning of this series, and today the CW have released a new poster showing off the broody, pretty leads (who, it must be said, are actually quite likeable and are not just pretty and broody) as well as some promotional cast images to further introduce them as well. Eliza Taylor leads the pack as Clarke, and she’s joined by Thomas McDonnell as Finn, Bob Morley as Bellamy, Marie Avgeropoulus as Octavia, Devon Bostick as Jasper and Christopher Larkin as Monty.
We’ll have a more detailed breakdown of who’s who later, and “The 100” premieres on Wednesday, March 19th at 9pm, but for now, the new poster and cast images are below.
