karen-gillan Not to worry, “Doctor Who” fans, looks like Amy Pond may be back on your TV screen this year. It was just announced that Karen Gillan has been cast as the lead in ABC’s comedy pilot “Selfie.”

The “My Fair Lady” inspired, social-media centric comedy will see Gillan as Eliza Dooley, who’s more concerned with getting “likes” than actually being liked. “After suffering a very public and humiliating breakup, she becomes the subject of a viral video and suddenly has more social media ‘followers’ than she ever imagined — but for all the wrong reasons. She enlists the help of a marketing expert at her company to help repair her tarnished image.”

Gillan just landed on our Faces to Watch in 2014 list for having lined up a nice potentially breakout role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy” so soon after leaving long-running BBC series “Doctor Who,” where she became a fan favorite playing companion Amy Pond for four seasons. Also releasing this year is horror “Oculus” with Brenton Thwaites.
