Move over, Kiernan Shipka, there’s a new Cathy in town. THR reports “Once Upon a Time” actress Rose McIver has taken over the lead role in Liftime’s planned “Flowers in the Attic” sequel, “Petals on the Wind.” This, of course, isn’t a knock against the “Mad Men” actress’s portrayal of Cathy Dollganger in the first hit TV movie – the character ages into her 20s in the sequel.
Cathy’s brother/lover Christopher, played by Mason Dye in the first film, will also be recast, but Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn, who played the children’s terrifying mother and grandmother, respectively, will reprise their roles. “Petals on the Wind” follows the three surviving Dollganger children, who are now young adults, as they try to live their lives normally despite obviously still traumatized by the abuse suffered in childhood. Cathy, particularly, is still bitter towards her mother, and eventually sets a course for vengeance that, of course, involves a lot of taboo relationship drama.
New Zealand actress McIver played older sister to Saoirse Ronan in “The Lovely Bones” and has been appearing as Tinkerbell on the current season of ABC’s “Once Upon a Time,” as well as Vivian Scully on Showtime’s new hit series “Masters of Sex.”
