British actor John Boyega has laid low since breaking out in 2011’s surprise hit “Attack the Block,” but it looks like he’s back with a vengeance, with Variety reporting he’s joined the cast of “24: Live Another Day,” the “event series” next chapter of Fox’s popular “24” series starring Kiefer Sutherland.
Sutherland is back as Jack Bauer, and original series regulars Kim Raver, William Devane and Mary Lynn Rajskub are reprising their roles as well. The story kicks off several years after where the original series left off, with Yvonne Strahovski in the female lead role of a CIA agent on fugitive Bauer’s trail. Stephen Fry was also recently cast to play the British Prime Minister, while Boyega will have a recurring but unspecified role. “24: Live Another Day” premieres on May 5th and will run for 12 episodes.
Boyega was one of our Breakout Stars of 2011 for his lead role as Moses in Joe Cornish’s alien invasion thriller “Attack the Block,” and while he’s kept a low profile since, 2014 is shaping up to be a big year for the British rising star. In addition to “24,” he’s just booked the lead role as Olympian Jesse Owens in an indie biopic called “Race,” and last week at Sundance he impressed in drama “Imperial Dreams,” which won the Audience Award in the NEXT <=> sidebar.
