The Oscar showdown between “12 Years a Slave” and “American Hustle” (and “Gravity”) continued tonight at the Critics’ Choice Awards, and it was the former that got a nice boost on the heels of the Oscar nominations announced this morning. “12 Years a Slave” took home Best Picture, and Lupita Nyong’o, who is expected to go head to head against Jennifer Lawrence in the Best Supporting Actress category on Oscar night, triumphed tonight as well.

Best Director went to Alfonso Cuaron for “Gravity,” continuing this strange trend of a Picture-Director split. Elsewhere, Best Acting front-runners Cate Blanchett for “Blue Jasmine” and Matthew McConaughey for “Dallas Buyers Club” solidified their status with wins, as did Jared Leto in Best Supporting Actor, also for “Dallas Buyers Club.”

“American Hustle” did win Best Acting Ensemble, a win underscored by all four actors getting Oscar nominations this morning. Best Adapted Screenplay also went to John Ridley for “12 Years a Slave,” while Spike Jonze won Best Original Screenplay for “Her.” He now becomes a major Oscar threat in the category. The film is also nominated for Best Picture.
