Last we saw, Elle Fanning was hard at work filming her new movie “Low Down,” and now the indie drama appears to be ready to be seen by audiences. With the announcement this morning that the film also starring John Hawkes will premiere at the Sundance Film Festival next month, we have the first official images featuring Fanning’s follow-up to “Ginger & Rosa.”
The biopic of pianist Joe Albany (Hawkes) follows Joe’s daughter Amy (Fanning) as she struggles with her father’s brilliance and substance abuse issues in turn, and is based on the real Amy Jo Albany’s memoir (she also helped adapt the script for screen). This certainly looks like another film, in the vein of “Ginger and Rosa,” that will help Fanning transition into more serious, mature roles. Well, barring a Sleeping Beauty in “Maleficent” or two.
“Low Down” premieres in the US Dramatic Competition lineup next month at Sundance. See the first official images of Fanning below.
