Wes Ball‘s adaptation of the young adult novel “The Maze Runner” is picking up speed, as Ball himself tweets that British actor Aml Ameen has won the role of Alby, the strict leader of the Gladers. “The Maze Runner” is James Dashner‘s trilogy of post-apocalyptic novels.
It follows Thomas, who begins life as one of the titular Maze Runners when he is deposited in The Glade with all of his past memories erased. Thomas finds himself among dozens of other boys who arrived the exact same way but as the boys train to become Runners, Thomas begins to question who’s behind their imprisonment and the ideas of a rebellion begin percolating.
Will Poulter has already been cast, and although we suggested he could play the lead role of Thomas, Ball’s tweet confirms that Poulter will play Gally, a fellow Glader who mistrusts Thomas and becomes Tom’s first enemy in the Glade. Fellow British actor Thomas Brodie-Sangster is also in negotiations to play Newt, who befriends and aids Thomas on his quest.
Ameen has starred on several hit British shows including “The Bill”, and in Noel Clarke’s cult British film “Kidadulthood“. He will play Forest Whitaker’s younger self in Lee Daniel’s “The Butler“, due out later this year.
